    Description
    The Executive Speech Writer is responsible for developing communications, primarily for the President and CEO, which drive audience engagement and are consistent with the strategies and objectives of the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association. This role reports to the Vice President of Communications. This position requires a strategic thinker with experience working in a matrixed organization; expert writing skills, and the ability to develop relationships with teams and leaders throughout the Association.
    • Lead and develop a variety of executive communications including speeches, presentations, video scripts, conference materials, Board communications, briefings, op-eds, blog posts, talking points, and internal employee messages.
    • Build strong relationships with Association business (e.g. HR, Policy & Advocacy, Strategy, Clinical, Governance) units to stay up to date on the latest activities and information.
    • Manage review/revision/approval processes including review with internal stakeholders to ensure accuracy and tone (e.g., Legal, Clinical, Policy & Advocacy).
    • Regularly maintain CEO message maps, talking points, and key facts, driving consistency across executive communications.
    • Staff CEO for briefings and other events.
    • Stay current on industry trends in health care and politics to inform material

    Education

    • Bachelors Degree


    Experience

    • Minimum 5 years of experience in the health insurance sector
    • 5+ years of experience as scriptwriter or speechwriter at a senior level
    • 10+ years of internal / external communications experience


    Skills

    • Proficiency with full suite of Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
    • Superb writing and editing skills and mastery of AP style.
    • Distill complicated, technical messages into consumer-friendly language.
    • Monitor best practices in executive communications.
    • Adapt writing style and tone to meet the needs of the message/audience/ channel.
    • Track record of producing high-quality presentations for senior executives.
    • Ability to work with confidential information.
    • Demonstrated excellence in all communication channels-verbal, written, and presentation.
    • Advanced proofreading, editing, and project management skills.
    • An acute eye for detail and quality.
    • Demonstrated ability to work through edits/drafts with patience.
    • Organized and detail-oriented with appreciation for a deadline-driven environment.
