Position Summary:

The Patient Care Support Assistant plays a crucial role in directly supporting patient care by assisting nurses and providers. The responsibilities include hands-on care, assisting with ADL's, and performing specified technical tasks under nurse supervision for a group of patients at Medical Surgical Unit and Emergency Room. Duties also involve housekeeping, HUC tasks, sitting, and patient transportation.

Responsibilities:

Provides morning or evening care such as bed baths, oral hygiene, dressing patients, and other supportive care tasks.
Takes and records vital signs, measurements, and intake-output data.
Documents patient records accurately.
Responds promptly to patient calls and requests.
Assists patients with mobility and transfers.
Monitors patient assignments using the flow board.
Reports any observed changes in patient status.
Assists with the nutritional needs of patients.
Maintains cleanliness in patient and work areas.
Ensures effective communication with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
Encourages patients to follow care plans.
Assists with various patient care tasks as required.
Maintains a safe environment and checks equipment for proper function.
Orders and restocks patient care supplies.
Ensures proper functioning of equipment at patient bedside.
Demonstrates competency in addressing age-specific patient needs.
Follows infection control policies and safety measures effectively.
Adheres to policies, procedures, and safety standards.
Completes required education assignments and participates in quality improvement initiatives.
Performs defined safety protocols and maintenance tasks.
Carries out any other assigned duties.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

This position serves as an internship opportunity for high school students aged 16-17 enrolled in healthcare courses with a career interest in healthcare.

Minimum Experience:

Familiarity with medical terminology is beneficial. Proficiency in computer operation and strong interpersonal skills are required. Ability to read, write clearly, and perform basic arithmetic. Completion of Covenant's orientation and Nursing Assistant training program is mandatory before patient care responsibilities.
