    Job Description

    The Department of Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics at Syracuse University is seeking part-time instructor(s) of Japanese to teach 4-credit section(s) of Japanese II (JPS ) and Japanese IV (JPS ) in the spring semester, which begins January 16, (appointment begins on January 9, ). Offer is contingent upon sufficient enrollment.

    Japanese II (JPS ) – 4 credits
    Continuing proficiency-based course which develops communicative abilities in speaking, listening, reading, and writing in culturally authentic contexts. Activities are conducted in Japanese.

    Japanese IV (JPS ) – 4 credits
    Continuing proficiency-based course which further refines and expands linguistic skills in culturally authentic contexts. Incorporates reading, discussing, and analyzing texts as a basis for the expression and interpretation of meaning. Conducted in Japanese.

    The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined based on their per-credit-rate-history within the hiring department. Qualifications Master's Degree preferred, native or near-native fluency required. Experience in university-level instruction preferred. Job Specific Qualifications "None" Responsibilities It is understood that teaching assignment may include:
  • Developing and/or updating a class syllabus. Ordering the appropriate books and materials in advance of the class start date.
  • Preparation of lectures, projects or other student assignments. Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours.
  • Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course.
  • Meeting all designated class periods.
  • Submitting completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.
  • Grading student assignments and exams in timely manner.
  • Providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.
  • Building a positive rapport with students and other faculty.
