    The Journeyman Electrician will be part of the dynamic A/E Design team within SDB's Design-Bid-Build operations. This team is primarily involved in design for various project types within the Veterans Affairs Medical Center systems throughout the United States. The position will support the electrical AE design, design document reviews, estimating and traveling as required to assist with electrical site surveys and installing load metering equipment as needed.

    Job Qualifications:

    Education and Certification:
    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Completion of an accredited electrician apprenticeship program.
    • Electrical journeyman license required (Master Electrician preferred).
    • Relevant certifications in electrical systems and energy management preferred.
    Experience:
    • 5-10 years of healthcare and/or industrial electrical experience required.
    • Proven experience with a focus on low and medium voltage power systems and renewable energy systems (e.g. photo-voltaic systems).
    • Familiarity with power and energy logging equipment and software.
    • Experience working with federal projects is preferred.
    Responsibilities:
    • Candidates must have a solid understanding of electrical system design, construction, and codes.
    • Fundamental Project Management.
    • Provide design, constructability, and code review for plans and specifications.
    • Responsible for electrical metering equipment installations and load monitoring reports (e.g. NEC day demand power studies).
    • Preparing Cost and Labor Estimates – one of the main responsibilities is to prepare and develop cost estimates for materials and labor before planning and construction begin. They can also expertly calculate how many laborers will be needed and give an accurate timeline to ensure the project stays within budget and is completed on time.
    • Managing Electrical Contractors – the journeyman electrician also has the important job of overseeing and managing electrical contractors. This can include assigning tasks, directing activities, and answering questions.
    • Resolving Electrical Problems – sometimes, things don't go exactly as planned, and existing plans, configurations, or blueprints are changed. If this occurs, the electrical engineer and the journeyman electrician are responsible for resolving any issues or problems that may arise. They work quickly to revise the plans so there isn't an interruption or delay in construction.
    • Conducting System Tests – throughout the course of the job, the journeyman electrician will periodically perform system tests on electrical systems and devices. This ensures that everything is working optimally and allows for problems to be resolved before they become bigger issues. At the final inspection, the journeyman electrician will not only test individual components and the electrical system, but they will also ensure everything is up to local and national codes.
    • Have a solid understanding of the scope of the work to be performed.
    • Ensure the team has the necessary tools and receives regular and timely information to produce a successful project.
    • Proven leadership experience and managerial experience are a must.
    • Superior client-facing/client relationship/client management skills and effective written and verbal communication skills.
    • Knowledge and experience using MS Office software family products.
    • Participate in activities and organizations related to our industry outside of daily business routine, developing peer relationships, technical growth, and business contacts.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Ability to track, manage, and account for key equipment across multiple projects.

    Licenses:
    • Valid electrician's license in the state of residence.
    • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
    Essential Functions:
    • Sitting at a desk and working on a computer for prolonged periods of time.
    • Able to lift to 15 pounds at times.
    • Frequent travel to various sites for field investigation and construction inspection.
    • Ability to wear and operate in appropriate protective equipment.
