    POSITION DUTIES


    The purpose of this position is to perform general maintenance tasks such as simple construction, repairs to roadways and walkways, routine preventive maintenance, heavy janitorial and general services work.

    Per the Amended Directive and Order Regarding Vaccination (MDH # issued by the Secretary of the Maryland Department of Health, effective April 18, 2023, staff in all hospitals and residential facilities operated by the Maryland Department of Health or any local health department are required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination.

    Staff includes, but is not limited to, regular and contractual employees, contractual staff, volunteers, and other state employees performing any duties at the facility.

    An individual may request an accommodation by providing appropriate and sufficient documentation for bona fide medical or religious reasons.


    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Education:
    Eighth grade.

    Experience:

    Four years of experience in any combination of the maintenance trades, three years must be in the trades of electricity, plumbing, steam fitting, refrigeration or air conditioning.


    Notes:

    • Candidates may substitute additional experience in any of the maintenance trades on a year-for-year basis for up to three years of the required education.
    • Candidates may substitute the possession of a degree from an accredited vocational or technical high school with a major in Building Maintenance or a related fieldfor up to three years of the required general experience.
    • Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in utilities repairclassifications or construction and engineering specialty codes inany combination of maintenance trades, on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

    DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    The desired candidate should possess the following:
    Experience working in a healthcare setting
    Experience working in a residential facility
    Experience in carpentry

    LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

    Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle.

    Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
