    College Overview

    The College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences (CFANS) is composed of 13 academic departments, 10 research and outreach centers across Minnesota, plus the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, the Bell Museum, and dozens of interdisciplinary centers that span the college, the university, and the globe.

    CFANS offers thirteen undergraduate majors and thirteen graduate majors, three pre-major/pre-professional programs and 23 minors for undergraduate students. Undergraduate enrollment in the college is about 2000 students.

    Department Overview

    MAST is an international exchange program that combines a practical, hands-on, educational experience in agriculture with a classroom experience through the University of Minnesota.

    The mission is to improve global understanding by providing educational and cultural enrichment through international exchange. MAST International began in one of the first programs of its type. Over 9500 trainees from more than 80 countries have participated in the MAST International program. The program is based on the St. Paul Campus of the University of Minnesota in the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences.

    Position Overview

    This position works independently in managing the MAST semester of study program while ensuring a quality experience for all stakeholders.

    This position also provides support to other MAST program areas, including creating visa documents and processing program extensions, etc.

    Responsibilities
    Academic Program - 40%
    Academically advise 25-70 MAST trainees per semester of study
    Become familiar with UMN systems and processes (Canvas, Duo, sponsored accounts, Schedule Builder, etc.) to enroll participants
    Prepare and revise content and processes for course selection and registration

    Facilitate two study period meetings prior to each semester
    Serve as liaison with UMN faculty and MAST instructors to track trainee course enrollment and academic performance
    Serve as MAST study period employment coordinator - help identify and facilitate part time jobs related to agriculture/horticulture for MAST trainees during their semester of study
    Serve as housing advisor for semester of study - assist MAST trainees with identifying and securing affordable housing options each semester
    Coordinate program extensions following the semester of study (prepare materials, conduct information meetings, and process immigration documents)
    Plan cultural events for semester participants
    Advise group of trainees to design and produce an academic yearbook

    Practical Training Support - 40%
    Serve as Alternate Responsible Officer for Student & Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS)
    Prepare visa and placement paperwork
    Compile information about training sites and design Training/Internship Plans
    Process applications, conduct interviews, and correspond with applicants, hosts, and international partners as needed
    Track participant status and required documents

    Program Administrative Duties - 20%
    Contribute to the development and revision of materials used by applicants, hosts, and international partners (instruction documents, newsletters, handbooks, application material, evaluations, website and social media content)
    Provide program information and support to trainees, hosts, and country partners
    Maintain program spreadsheets and databases
    Partake in new arrival orientations
    Assist participants with health insurance claims and questions


    Required Qualifications:
    BA/BS or a combination of related education and work experience to equal four years
    Ability to apply knowledge and skill to a recurring task or activity with emphasis typically on precision and timeliness of execution
    Experience being detail-oriented
    Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    Experience using computer skills including Microsoft and Google Office Suites, Adobe Acrobat
    Demonstrated initiative to work independently as well as part of a strong team
    Driver's license required
    Due to the role of Alternate Responsible Officer, must be a citizen or lawful permanent resident of the United States


    Preferred Qualifications:
    Experience working with international-focused programs
    General knowledge and background in agriculture/horticulture
    Previous international work/exchange experience
    Experience working with people from other cultures and backgrounds
    Familiarity or fluency in a foreign language


    Salary/Benefits:
    Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. Intended annual range is $46,000-48,000.
