    Since 1910, the Boy Scouts of America have helped mold the future leaders of this country by combining educational activities and teaching lifelong values with fun The Crossroads of America Council, headquartered in Indianapolis, IN, serves 35,000 youth and 7,000 adult volunteers in 26 counties in central Indiana. Our program opportunities for young men and women ages 5-20 include Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, Venturing, Exploring, STEM Scouts, and Reaching for Tomorrow.

    We have three openings in the Indianapolis area:

    Five Creeks District – West (Predominantly Hendricks County and parts of Boone, Montgomery, Clinton, and western Marion County)

    Monon – Northeast (Predominantly Hamilton County, plus parts of Tipton, Boone, and northern Marion County)

    Pathfinder District (Predominantly Johnson and southern Marion County)

    POSITION CONCEPT AND SUMMARY:

    Provides leadership to the achievement of the council's philosophy, mission, and strategy and to its annual objectives and goals within the district. Sustains and grows youth and adult membership. Conducts fundraising campaigns and secures donations. Recruits, trains, and oversees volunteers to deliver Scouting programs through chartered partners. Acts as the operational officer of the district, accepting responsibility for the success or failure of a specific share of the enterprise. Works with the district committee and commissioner staff to fulfill their functions.

    PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. CHARTERED ORGANIZATIONS. Maintain positive relationships with each chartered organization by visiting the head of the organization regularly. Survey each institutional head to establish needs and identify areas of improvement. Develop a plan to improve the quality of service to each organization. Seek out, cultivate and develop new potential organizations to charter positive Scouting programs.
    2. MANPOWER. Recruit enough quality volunteers to serve on district committee and commissioner staff. Regularly identify and call upon prospective volunteers to tell Scouting story. Ensure that proper training and coaching occur for each position. Recruit and develop district nominating committee to enhance quality of manpower in the district. Serve as the motivator and manager of the district committee. Work effectively with district Key-3 and Management Team by planning and organizing district work to meet district objectives.
    3. MEMBERSHIP RECRUITMENT. By following the council membership plan, increase membership density of Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA members and Ventures in the district. Maintain balanced growth. Show an increase in total units over previous year. Reduce the number of dropped units over previous year.
    4. FRIENDS OF SCOUTING. Achieve district Friends of Scouting objectives. Serve as campaign manager for FOS campaigns by following council campaign plans, including analysis, prospecting and development. Show increase in total dollars over previous year. Increase total number of donors over previous year. Recruit, train, and motivate enough quality volunteers to make the campaigns successful.
    5. POPCORN. Achieve district popcorn sales campaign objectives. Serve as campaign manager for popcorn campaign by maintaining campaign schedule, organizing unit participation, and increasing number of units, Scouts, and gross sales over previous year.
    6. UNITED WAY. Responsible for cultivating positive relations with local United Way. Assist in preparing funding proposals and outcome-based measures, and present requests under the direction of the Scout Executive/CEO.
    7. PROGRAM. Manage program function of district operations. Control the fiscal management of all district program budgets. Ensure that quality, well rounded, purpose driven activities are provided to enhance unit operations. Monitor unit advancement as indicator of unit health. Ensure quality training events occur regularly in district for unit volunteers. Promote participation in camping/outdoor experiences including Scouts BSA Summer Camp, Cub Scout Day Camps, and Adventure Camp.
    8. UNIT SERVICE. Recruit, train, and motivate unit commissioners. Provide quality Roundtable experiences for unit leaders. Develop and maintain a yearly unit service plan. Supervise all unit rechartering, to achieve district rechartering goals.
    9. Regular and predictable attendance is a requirement of the job.
    10. Other duties as assigned.

    ACCOUNTABILITY: PDS Goals, to be determined on an annual basis.

    MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT USED: 100% of time

    Office-related equipment, including, but not limited to, computer, copier, printer, telephone, fax machine, scanner, phone, audio-visual equipment

    PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS: 100% of time

    Physical requirements include reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, lifting, feeling, talking, hearing, repetitive motions, computer keyboarding, driving motor vehicle. Must be able to sit and work at a computer keyboard and be able to perform repetitive and stretching motions. While in office, work is usually sedentary. Occasional heavy lifting of boxes, files and equipment (up to 50 pounds); as well as other reasonable physical needs for an office environment.

    MENTAL DEMANDS: 100% of time

    Reading, detail work, confidentiality, problem solving, language, training, math, reasoning, verbal communication, written communication, customer contact, ability to work independently and make independent judgment decisions consistent with council policies and procedures, manage multiple concurrent tasks, frequent interruptions in a fast-paced environment, continual change.

    WORKING CONDITIONS: 100% of the time

    The employee is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions. When visiting council camps, the employee may be exposed to some special adverse environmental conditions.

    WORKING RELATIONSHIPS, SUPERVISION, VOLUNTEER RELATIONS:

    Recognize the importance of a good working relationship with other staff members. Recognize the importance of a close and harmonious working relationship with all volunteers.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Must possess a bachelor's degree. Must meet all criteria for membership in the Boy Scouts of America, including receiving and maintaining a professional commission from the National Council, Boy Scouts of America. Previous sales, marketing, fundraising, or program experience (including college activities) preferred.

    • Computer proficiency (Microsoft Office Suite, online application, etc.)
    • Communication proficiency (written and spoken)
