    Job ProfileSummary

    This role focuses on using various imaging techniques and practices to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.In addition, this role focuses on performing the following Ultrasound duties:UtilizesUltrasound Technology toprovideimages of internal body structures.A clinical technologist role that has specialized knowledge or skills gained through a combination of vocational education, training, and experience.This role will be most commonly applied to patient care and/or scientific/laboratory jobs.An experienced level role requiring basic knowledge of job procedures and tools obtained through work experience and requiring vocational or technical education.Works under moderate supervision, works through problems of a routine nature, but may at times require interpretation or deviation from standard procedures and communicates information that requires some explanation or interpretation.

    Job Overview

    Performs high quality diagnostic ultrasound exams and special diagnostic ultrasound procedures under the direction of the physician and/or radiologist involving the use of high frequency sound waves to investigate the internal aspects of the human body.Requires a high degree of technical knowledge pertaining to acoustics and its various interactions within the human body.Works cooperatively within department and other services to create a system of quality health care.

    Job Description

    Minimum Qualifications:

    1.Associatesdegreefrom atwo-yearcollege-based ultrasound program.

    2. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.

    3. American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) within one year of data of hire.

    4. One (1) year of experience as anultrasound technologist.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    1. Two(2)years of work experience as an ultrasound technologist.

    2. Registered in either GYN, abdominal (small parts) ultrasound, or breast sonography.

    Duties and Responsibilities:Theduties and responsibilities listedbeloware intended to describe the general nature of workandare not intended to be an all-inclusive list.Other dutiesand responsibilitiesmay be assigned.

    1.Sets up andoperatesequipment, manipulating transducers and adjusting console dials to obtain a clear recording of specified sections of the body.

    2.Performs ultrasound examinations in all modalities (B-scan, Doppler, M-mode, real time).

    3.Assists physicians and/or radiologists with any special procedures.

    4.Records each examination and prepares exam images for PACS.

    5.Obtains all clinical information available through charts, films, lab tests, etc. prior to exams.Informs clinics,physiciansand floors of interpretation for exams andprovidesresults on request.

    6.Ensures correct andaccuratedocumentation of the patient information. Follows patient tracking system correctly and accurately

    7.Assists radiologists in interpretation by describing anatomy, anatomicallocationsand acoustic characteristics of each film.

    8.Comparespreviousultrasound to current exam, writes up case and findings on technologist sheets, compiles everything together and gives to the radiologist to be dictated.

    9.Informs supervisor of equipment problems and safety issues.

    10.Providesthe highest level of service to all customer groups.Conforms behavior and actions byexhibitingexcellent customer relation skills to patients, visitors,physiciansand co-workers.

    11.Educates each patient in a professional manner about what the patients should expect and the timeliness of the exam.Iscommitted to assure that the patients expectations of service are exceeded. (AIDET)

    12.Participatesin department quality improvement/assurance.Assumes responsibility for designated areas and/or procedures as required.

    13.Maintainsand/ormonitorsdepartment supplies.

    14.Teaches residents, students, medicalstaffand visitors the science, capabilities, and proper use of ultrasound as a diagnostic tool.Develops andmaintainsa filing system for patient records and teaching purposes.

    15.Checks andmaintainssupplies. Maintains sterilization of equipment usingappropriate cleaningprocedures involved with specialized equipment.

    Physical Requirements:

    1.Frequent standing, occasional sitting&walking, lifting of 30-35 lbs.

    2.Pushing, pulling&moving equipment as needed.

    3. Requires manual dexterity using fine hand manipulation tooperatetransducers, ultrasound equipment&computer keyboard.

    4. Hearing and visual sufficient to perform examinations,observepatients, read monitors and documents, hear equipment and hospital alarms.

    5.Close contact with patients having contagious diseases.

    6.Exposure to patients injected with radioisotopes.

    7.Frequent contacts with patients, physicians, patients families, and other personnel throughout the hospital.

    Skills&Abilities:

    1.An in-depth knowledge of anatomy and physiology is alsorequiredso the technologist can evaluate laboratory data, past medicalhistoryand pertinent symptoms to tailor the ultrasound examination to each patient individually in a safe,accurateandtimelymanner.

    2. Proficient inultrasounds&procedures requiring ultrasound guidance.

    3.Ability to perform exams in Doppler, M-mode, B-scanand real time modalities.

    4.Ability to concentrate forlong periodsof time under various conditions whileacquiringdiagnostic information.

    5.Knowledge and skills necessary toprovidecareappropriate tothe age of the patients served in his/her assigned service area.

    6.Ability to work independently to perform exams and will seek outassistancefrom others andsupervisoras necessary.

    7.Displays good judgment and works through a problem with creativityandremainsfocused and professional.

    8. Responds tochangeand/or stats in the work schedule in a calm andappropriate manner.

    9.Ability tocooperate withco-workers and management to ensurean atmosphere that isconductiveto high quality patients care.
