    Summary
    This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position.

    ARTs are part of the regular career civil service and enjoy all the benefits granted to Federal employees in the competitive civil service.

    In addition, ARTs are required to maintain their active membership in the AF Reserve unit where assigned. ARTs receive on average one weekend of military training per month.

    Duties
    The primary purpose of this position is to serve as an Air Reserve Technician (ART), technical authority responsible for coordinating the work of other journey-level workers to perform/advise scheduled or unscheduled inspections, repairs, replacements, troubleshoot, documentation, build-up and tear down, flight line maintenance and operational runs of aircraft propulsion systems installed or uninstalled, and to provide training to all assigned reservist personnel as required in the accomplishment of duties set forth herein. Determine when the nature and scope of repair involves other trades, ., aircraft mechanics, electricians, electronics mechanics, sheet metal/structural repair or integrated systems mechanics and coordinate the work of these individuals with the other trades.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1.

    Serves as technical authority to perform/coordinate/oversee troubleshooting and analysis of gas turbine engines to determine air worthiness of propulsion systems installed on aircraft on the flight-line and uninstalled in back shop and test cell capacities.

    Applies total engine and aircraft system knowledge when troubleshooting/evaluating propulsion systems performance.
    2. Coordinates, oversees and performs the disassembly, repair, overhaul, inspection and reassembly of aircraft propulsion systems, subassemblies, and components.

    Determines degree of disassembly required to repair or replace defective parts or components, make prescribed modifications and make final adjustments to achieve acceptable propulsion systems operation.

    Skilled/certified in the operation and maintenance of diagnostic test equipment, on-board electronic equipment, a variety of special equipment, hand, measurement and power tools.

    Maintain certification on the completion of tasks requiring the use of various precision test/ measurement equipment to include but not limited to Blade Blending, Rigid Borescope, Flexible Borescope w/measuring capabilities, Test Cell Operations, In Process Inspection, Bearing handling, etc.

    4.

    Enforces and complies with safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work area.

    Strictly adheres to safety procedures and regulations and promptly reports any observed or identified violations in accordance with established guidelines.

    5. Certify, utilize and enforce the work produced under the USAF Technical Order Program and applicable commercial aircraft/propulsion manuals.

    Analyze changes to the guidelines, as well as maintenance modification orders, to determine material, equipment and personnel needs and to perform technical reviews of the guidelines, to locate discrepancies or propose improvements to methods or specifications.

    6.

    Removes or installs entire propulsion systems from/on aircraft, test cell and maintenance stand working as a member or leader of a team.

    As lead, coordinates and certifies the work efforts of one to five subordinate technicians and other journey level mechanics.
    7. Maintain, inspect, operate and certify test cell and hush house. Leads engine run efforts and coordinates engine transportation, engine run clearance, fire department support and other outside agencies.

    Inspects and repairs hydraulic systems, mechanical systems, computer systems, electrical systems, electrical harnesses and data transfer cables to maintain the test cell/hush house in operational condition.

    8.

    Perform Engine Health Management (EHM) program duties and properly document propulsion system maintenance in historical records and the Maintenance Information System (MIS).

    Retrieve/interpret aircraft propulsion system performance data using specialized equipment to identify abnormalities/trends in engine health and direct maintenance actions as required.

    9. Prepares effective training plans to maximize training for assigned personnel. Complies with required instruction, guidance and/or training and provides instruction, guidance and training to others
