Job description
The Network Administrator position is primarily responsible for the administration, operation, and support of the Credit Union ONE Microsoft Azure Cloud Infrastructure. This includes the planning, design, installation, configuration, maintenance, optimization, and support of servers, network services, software, data and voice communications, Internet services, unified communications, data storage, and other components of the IT Infrastructure. The position of Network Administrator optimizes the performance of the Microsoft Azure Cloud infrastructure to ensure efficient, effective, and reliable IT operations in support of established credit union business strategies and objectives.
- Azure Cloud Administration – Administers and supports Microsoft Azure subscriptions, tenants, and resources. Deploys, configures, and manages Azure services including; Virtual Machines (VMs), Maintain and support Windows Server environments integrated with Azure services, Azure Virtual Networks (VNets), subnets, NSGs, and routing, Azure Storage (Blob, File, Disk), Azure Backup and Azure Site Recovery, Azure App Services and supporting PaaS resources (as applicable), Supports hybrid connectivity between Azure and on‑premises environments using VPN and/or ExpressRoute, Monitors Azure resource performance, availability, and capacity using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and alerts.
- Azure Identity and Access Management - Administers Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD) including users, groups, roles, and conditional access. Implements and manages: Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), Privileged Identity Management (PIM), Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), Reviews and audits access privileges regularly to ensure least‑privilege security.
- Cloud Operations & Maintenance - Develops and executes scheduled cloud maintenance activities including patching, updates, and lifecycle management, Manages backups, recovery testing, and disaster recovery procedures. Documents and tests Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery (BCDR) plans involving Azure resources. Automates routine tasks using Azure-native tools, scripting, or Infrastructure as Code where applicable.
- Azure Monitoring, Troubleshooting, and Support - Provides Tier II / Tier III support for cloud-related incidents and service requests. Proactively monitors systems to prevent outages and performance degradation. Troubleshoots and resolves issues related to Azure compute, networking, identity, and storage. Works with vendors and Microsoft support as needed for complex issues.
- Cloud Security - Implements and maintains Azure security best practices aligned with regulatory and financial‑industry standards. Supports logging, monitoring, and incident response for cloud security events. Works closely with IT Security and compliance teams to remediate vulnerabilities and audit findings. Ensures encryption, secure configuration, and proper key management are enforced.
- Network and Systems Administration – Manages the day-to-day operation of computer networks including new implementations, system monitoring, hardware and software support, training, and special projects; plans, designs and implements data connectivity for local area network (LAN) and wide area network (WAN) systems. Physical and virtual computer servers, software, and data storage systems; monitors and optimizes the effectiveness and performance of computer servers, data storage systems, and user devices; recommends and implements improvements to the server and storage infrastructure. Also, develop short-term and long-term plans for the IT infrastructure in support of credit union business objectives by researching and recommending network, telecommunications, and server hardware and software; develop forecasts for data storage and server utilization, as well as network bandwidth requirements. Assists in consulting, planning, and coordinating with vendors and clients for hardware and software purchases, installations, and support; researches and recommends the purchase of related products and services.
- Network and Systems Maintenance – Develops, maintains, and executes scheduled and documented network and server Azure infrastructure maintenance plans, including operating system upgrades, patch management, application upgrades and maintenance releases, SSL certificate maintenance, and system specific maintenance tasks. Performs and maintains server and system backups; tests effectiveness of backup systems at regular intervals; reports testing results to IT management. Provides direct feedback to team and IT Management on system and process effectiveness.
- Network and Systems Support – Performs network, and server Azure infrastructure support as directed. Researches, analyzes, troubleshoots, and resolves network and server issues. Proactively monitors the network, servers, and software applications for issue prevention; monitors the system and data integrity of enterprise systems and server platforms. Analyzes system events and audit logs, performs diagnostics on computers, network hardware, software applications, and related equipment, and takes the appropriate action to resolve problems. Develops, implements, and maintains proactive network monitoring and automated system issue alerts to monitor the effectiveness and performance of computer servers and networking systems; configure after-hours automated system issue alerting for critical infrastructure components and business systems to alert designated personnel; responds to automated system issue alerts when designated. Suggests process and procedure improvements to resolve chronic support issues and system problems.
- Network and Systems Documentation and Training – Creates and maintains accurate documentation for: Azure architecture and configurations, Security controls and access models, Operational procedures and runbooks, Asset inventories and cost tracking. Assists with knowledge transfer and training for IT staff and service desk personnel.
- IT Service Desk Support - Provides Tier II technical support to IT Service Desk personnel to resolve system incidents that require advanced technical skills. Also, provides direct end-user support and backup IT Service Desk support as needed and deemed necessary in support of credit union business objectives. In fulfilling these responsibilities, maintains and tracks support issues and calls within the case management system; maintains contact and follows-up with employees to ensure quality level of support; interacts with users in non-technical, clear terms; adheres to and enforces organization policies, rules, and regulations relating to technology use; contacts vendors, researches technical manuals, guides, web sites and user groups to answer user questions and solve technical issues or problems. Updates and maintains the CUO Alerts section of SharePoint to alert the organization of significant IT related events as directed.
- Business Continuity Planning - Creates, develops, and maintains Business Continuity Planning documentation and procedures. Performs and periodically verifies network, server, and critical system backups; maintains broadband backup network connectivity to branch offices. Also, executes periodic testing of Business Continuity Plan procedures to verify preparedness.
- Microsoft Teams Voice and Unified Communications - Designs, implements, maintains, and supports voice and unified communication systems, including call routing strategies, call center applications, e-mail, voicemail, FAX services, audio and video conferencing, instant messaging and SIP devices.
- Innovation – Researches and implements new cloud technologies related to the delivery of IT services. Consults with vendors on new technologies, recommends new technologies for purchase and deployment, and envisions new applications of existing technology to create new credit union products and services, and enhance the member value proposition.
- Project Management - Possesses exceptional project management skills. Leads projects as assigned. Meets regularly with supervisor to provide project updates. Creates and maintains project plans that clearly communicate tasks, milestones, status, expectations, and resource allocations, including accurate project budgets.
Requirements:
- Bachelors' degree (B.A. or B.S.) from a four-year college and two years of work-related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience should provide incumbent with knowledge and understanding of Microsoft Azure Cloud computer/data processing system operations, network administration, and data security methods, preferably at a financial institution.
- 2+ years of experience administering Microsoft Azure Cloud infrastructure.
- Strong knowledge of: Azure networking, compute, storage, and identity services, Cloud security principles and access controls, Hybrid cloud environments.
- Microsoft Azure Fundamentals, Azure Administrator Associate, Azure Solutions Architect Expert certifications a Plus.
- Strong knowledge of perimeter security, social engineering, and other aspects of information security practices.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of switches, routers, firewalls, security appliances, VPN, IDS, IPS, and the LAN/WAN network environment.
- Experience in the Cisco product suite is a plus. Additional experience with products from such vendors as Genesys, Cohesity, and Broadcom are also a plus.
- Ability and knowledge to design, change and implement complex network solutions.
- Solid analytical skills to troubleshoot high-level, complex and technical problems.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to handle multiple activities or interruptions at once and to work positively and effectively within a team or self-directed model.
- Ability to multi-task in fast paced, demanding environment.
- Able to work extended hours and be available as required or necessary to fulfill duties.
This is a hybrid position that comes into the office on a rotating schedule.
