    Minnesota Housing is hiring We're a mission-focused financial institution looking for an Underwriting Technician.
    This position is on the Production Team within the multifamily division of Minnesota Housing. The Production Team finances the preservation and creation of affordable rental apartments throughout Minnesota.

    These projects generally contain 40-70 units of housing, though they can be as small as 12 units or as large as 200.

    A variety of project types are financed to serve all Minnesotans:
    singles, families, seniors, persons with disabilities, and people who have experienced homelessness.

    The projects have multiple sources of financing, including amortizing first mortgages, deferred loans, and Low Income Housing Tax Credits (HTCs).

    The Production Team's customers are housing developers, including non-profits, for-profits, tribes, and other governmental entities.

    The Underwriting Technician position supports multifamily underwriters in the management of projects from initial selection or approval through initial closing and start of construction.

    They facilitate communication with borrowers and internal team members, track project status, and collect and complete initial reviews of due diligence.

    Underwriting Technicians serve as the primary point person for communication with developers of selected projects.

    Given the volume and complexity of the projects in production, the Underwriter Technician is a critical role to keep track of projects and keep them moving toward closing.

    Essential Job Duties

    • Work effectively and collaboratively with customers, funders, and other internal staff and in support of the assigned underwriters to facilitate getting projects to closing.
    • Complete reviews of due diligence for completeness and consistency with Agency requirements.
    • Point person for communication:

    project launches, on-going meetings, project status updates, borrower use of the Agency's on-line PORTAL system for document sharing and storing.


    • Work within multiple data systems to collect and track project information, track time sensitive deadlines, update project status, and input project data.
    • Assist in the review of funding applications submitted in competitive request for proposals (RFPs), including initial scoring and site control.
    • Complete preliminary review of HTC related submissions and processes.
    • Perform other duties as needed.

    Minimum Qualifications

    To be qualified for and considered for this position, applicants must meet all of the minimum qualifications listed below.     • Two (2) years of experience in real estate or commercial lending, multifamily rental or single-family loan processing, affordable housing program administration/implementation, affordable housing property management, or compliance.
      An Associate's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Housing, Real Estate or Community Development/Planning may substitute for six months of professional experience. OR
      A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Housing, Real Estate or Community Development/Planning may substitute for one (1) year of professional experience.

    • Ability to interpret Agency and other guidance and review submitted documents for consistency with such guidance.

    • Ability to conduct preliminary review of due diligence documents and loan files for completeness and consistency with Agency and program requirements.

    • Experience with balancing competing priorities and meeting tight deadlines, along with great attention to detail.

    • Strong interpersonal skills, including team player orientation.

    • Strong communication skills.
