    Description
    Required qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in biology, biochemistry or a related biological science in hand by May 2024. Experience in laboratory research or related laboratory activities and techniques.

    Preferred qualifications:Experience in kidney biology or transcription factor biology or metabolism. Experience in immunostaining, Western blotting and/or PCR and qPCR. Experience in analysis of mouse tissues. Computer skills for scientific analysis.

    Brief Description of Duties:
    We are seeking a research support specialist to join the lab of Dr. Sian Piret in the Division of Nephrology and Hypertension within the Department of Medicine at Stony Brook University. Our lab is focused on understanding mechanisms of acute kidney injury (AKI) and transition to chronic kidney disease (CKD). Specifically, we are studying transcriptional control of kidney proximal tubular cell metabolism and mechanisms of DNA damage repair. We use in vitro and in vivo models, including live cell metabolic assays and transgenic models. The successful applicant will assist the Principal Investigator in the experiments and data analysis. The incumbent will conduct research and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University.

    The successful applicant will have laboratory skills, with a willingness to learn new techniques, and high attention to detail. They will have an ability to work independently, including in problem solving, as well as within a team.

    Duties:
    • Within defined test or analytical protocols, operate equipment and carry out test procedures in support of a research project within the Division of Nephrology.
    • Perform DNA and RNA purification, PCR, qPCR, Western blotting and immunostaining
    • Perform data analysis and library research
    • Assist with lab organization, order lab supplies and maintain supply inventory
    • Other duties as assigned.
