Job description

 DISCLOSURE\: This position requires both a written and oral exam for consideration. For internal candidates, please apply through the Employee portal for consideration. 

Job Summary
Performs routine heavy manual labor involving lifting and carrying heavy containers,
collecting and removing trash, performing heavy cleaning tasks and involves assisting
on a service line.


Essential Functions

• Lifts and carries crates of milk, heavy containers of food, trash cans and other
containers.

• Collects and removes trash from food preparation and service areas.

• Sweeps, mops and waxes floors.

• Washes walls and appliances and performs other cleaning tasks as directed by the
Manager or Supervisor.

• Receives deliveries of food and supplies; participates in the inventorying of food and

• Takes temperatures of cold and frozen food items delivered; records temperatures on
the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) logbook.

• Sets up service crates of milk or juice cartons or other food

• Places food on serving counters; serves and portions food to children or adults in a
cafeteria; receives money and makes change.

• Counts the number of food items prepared and sold.

• Operates compliant Point of Service and Point of Service computer terminal and/or
roster.

Minimum Requirements

• Education equivalent to the completion of the twelfth school grade.

• Two years of full-time, paid food services experience.



Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Demonstrated knowledge of:

o the public health guidelines when handling food

o the public health aspects of garbage/trash disposal.

• Demonstrated ability to:

o lift and carry heavy containers and equipment not in excess of fifty pounds.

o learn how to use institutional cleaning equipment.

o learn to use and care for equipment used in food services.

o read, write and count accurately.

o maintain personal cleanliness

o understand and follow oral and written instructions.

o establish and maintain effective working relationships.
