    Principal Design Engineer - Utility-Scale Solar

    Location:
    Bay Area, California


    Role Overview:
    Seeking a skilled Solar Designer to join a dynamic team specializing in the development of utility-scale solar projects.

    The Solar Designer will play a crucial role in the planning and design phases of solar energy systems, ensuring optimal performance, efficiency, and adherence to project specifications.


    Key Responsibilities:
    Collaborate with engineering and project management teams to conceptualize, design, and develop utility-scale solar projects.
    Utilize industry-standard software and tools to create detailed solar layouts, including site plans, single-line diagrams, and electrical schematics.

    Conduct site assessments and surveys to gather essential data for solar system design, such as shading analysis, topography, and infrastructure constraints.

    Optimize solar array layouts and configurations to maximize energy output and minimize costs, considering factors such as tilt, orientation, and inter-row spacing.

    Perform system sizing calculations and component selection, including solar panels, inverters, racking systems, and balance of system (BOS) components.
    Generate comprehensive project documentation, including technical drawings, specifications, and design reports, to support project development and permitting processes.
    Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and technological advancements in solar energy system design and integration.

    Collaborate with external stakeholders, including clients, regulatory agencies, and utility companies, to address design-related inquiries and ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulations.

    Provide technical support and guidance to construction teams during the implementation phase, resolving design-related issues and facilitating project execution.
    Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, sharing insights and recommendations to enhance design processes, standards, and efficiency.


    Qualifications:
    Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or related field. Master's degree preferred.
    Proven experience in solar energy system design, with a focus on utility-scale projects.
    Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD), PV design tools (e.g., PVsyst, Helioscope), and GIS applications (e.g., ArcGIS).
    Strong understanding of electrical principles, photovoltaic technologies, and utility interconnection requirements.
    Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with meticulous attention to detail.
    Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and interact with external stakeholders.
    Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
    Knowledge of relevant codes, standards, and regulations governing solar energy systems (e.g., NEC, IBC, IEEE).
