    Job Description:

    The Department Physics & Astronomy Professor Juana Moreno is searching for a full-time Curriculum Research Manager to work on the Education Innovation & Research funded research-practice partnership project between East Baton Rouge Parish School System and Louisiana State University to bridge the gap in computer science and computational thinking education in Louisiana. The position requires strong expertise in student thinking and learning progressions, and connections between algebraic and computational thinking. This position requires excellent research and organizational skills and extensive experience on working with students in mathematics and computing classes. This work entails a strong background in research in mathematics, statistics and/or computing education fields. In particular, the job requires knowledge on statistical methods including data-mining, optimization methods, predictive modeling and data clustering.

    Job Responsibilities:
    • Observations for fidelity of implementation of the Intro to Computational Thinking curricula. Based on on-going analysis of observations modify the current rubric to better capture alignment with Algebra I outcomes. Collaborate with other team members to modify the curriculum and the teacher support to maximize students Algebra I outcomes.
    • Coordinate and contribute to LSU & EBRPSS efforts to develop and support teachers' professional development. This work requires working with teachers in collaborative and one-on-one professional learning settings to support the efforts for fidelity of implementation of the Intro to Computational Thinking curricula with the aim of improving students' learning outcomes.
    • Engage in impactful mathematics and/or computing education scholarly activity (e.g., journal publications, presentations, book chapters) that ideally affords research opportunities for our partner teachers, district leaders at EBRPSS as well as the research team at LSU.
    • Engage in writing research progress reports and proposals. In particular, documenting the research progress for funding renewals and project due reports and come with an expansion plan based on a solid research proposal.
    • Coordinate and document interaction between LSU & EBRPSS. The documentation should provide evidences for improvement efforts and a measurement of the degree of success of the partnership.
    • Engage parent, students, community and industry.
    • Recruit/retain schools, principals, and teachers.
    • Coordinate with other initiatives in EBRPSS, LSU and the State. Participate in meetings to learn about relevant initiatives.
    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Master's degree with a focus on education or statistics education.
    • One year of related experience in teaching including mathematics and computer science courses. Experience in scholarly communication in mathematics or computing education.
    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Degree in statistical methods including data-mining, optimization methods predictive modeling and data clustering. Eight years teaching experience including mathematics and computer science courses. Understanding of pedagogical content knowledge related to needs of diverse student groups.
