    General Job Description:


    The primary responsibility of the substitute nurse shall be to provide health care for a specific student, including dispensing required medications.


    Qualifications:
    1.1-3 years of experience in a pediatric medical environment preferred.


    • Must hold a diploma or Associates Degree or Bachelors Degree from an accredited nursing program.
    • Must hold a valid license from the Illinois Department of Professional Regulations as an Illinois Registered Nurse.
    • Must be certified in CPR.
    • Demonstrates strong organizational and communication skills and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
    • Any equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
    • All KCSD 96 employees muct be vaccinated again COVID-19.

    Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

    • Dispenses medications as directed by the Illinois School Code and the District's policies and procedures, maintains security of controlled substances and medications.
    • Provides and/or monitors treatment based on assessment of student during periods of short-term and long-term rest and recovery, and communicates withparents and physicians of treatment, progress, etc.
    • Responsible for awareness of medication side effects and drug interactions.
    • Supervises and performs necessary medical interventions to provide and promote student independence.
    • Maintains universal precautions under the guidelines of OSHA.
    • Provides first aid care and notifies paramedics in a school emergency situation.
    • Develops, evaluates and updates individualized nursing interventions and goals for assigned student.
    • Communicates with teachers and other school staff on the medical needs/issues of the assigned student.
    • Attends parent/teacher/student meetings as required.
    • Refers students to the appropriate medical provider.
    • Assesses the medical needs of assigned student.
    • Interfaces with all levels of school staff and with District staff and outside agencies.
    • Performs other related duties as may be necessary and assigned by the director of educational services and the building principal.
