Head Custodian

Pocopson Elementary School

8 hours per day x 260 days per year - Benefit Eligible

Salary $ $25.00

Available Mid-April 2026

Job Summary: Responsible for supervising custodial staff and coordinating with building Principal and Director of Facilities to ensure a safe and secure educational environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School diploma

• Good computer skills – work orders, supply orders, email, other basic applications

• Strong oral and written communication skills

• Knowledge of proper cleaning practices, equipment, materials, supplies, etc. in maintaining a school environment

• Knowledge of hand tools and minor repairs

• Skills to work with and manage people – pleasant, positive, enthusiastic, fair, understanding, etc.

• Ability to work as a team player or independently

• Good aptitude, physical ability, and stamina

• Be of good moral character (honest and trustworthy)

• Ability to read and comprehend manuals for repairs

• Demonstrate time management skills, strong work ethic, and integrity

• Good to excellent employment history

• Strong organizational skills

• Ability to observe, assess a situation and problem solve

• Flexibility in schedule – in working overtime

• Ability to use hand and power tools correctly

• Ability to ensure safe work practices

• Willing to attend classes/training and to expand knowledge

• Must be meticulous in note keeping and documentation

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Employee must have the ability to perform the following essential functions on a timely basis with or without reasonable accommodations.

• Be a role model

• Supervise custodial staff and conduct regular performance reviews

• Establish job duties and responsibilities for custodial staff

• Implement a daily cleaning program to ensure a clean and healthy facility

• Establish a daily routine for locking/unlocking and ensuring a safe facility

• Maintain accurate records for attendance, performance, overtime, disciplinary action, etc. for all custodial staff

• Address personnel issues in consultation with Director of Facilities

• Maintain accurate records of equipment purchases, repairs, and usage

• Assist in cleaning and maintaining the facility and equipment

• Perform minor repairs and report more significant repairs as needed–equipment repairs and building repairs

• Work and/or schedule overtime as needed – coordinate with Director of Facilities

• Collaborate with building principal on a daily basis

• Order supplies as needed and keep accurate records of inventory

• Assist with special events and activities

• Assist different departments, PTO, and outside groups

• Perform and coordinate snow removal activities

• Assist with fire and weather drills

• Use automated systems to operate HVAC systems, lighting, work orders, etc.

• Other duties as may be required

EQUIPMENT OPERATION: Must be able to operate any and all equipment necessary to carry out duties and responsibilities.

WORK SCHEDULE:

• Twelve (12) months per year /40 hours per week

• School Year: 8-hour shift Monday-Friday

• Summer: 10-hour shift Monday-Thursday (day)

• Overtime may be required (possible weekends)

WORKING CONDITIONS: Employee must be able to work indoors and occasionally outdoors in typical seasonal weather conditions.

Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance (Act 151)

Pennsylvania State Criminal Record Check (Act 34)

Federal Criminal History Record Check (Act 114)
