    SALARY $50, $61,599.00 Annually

    ELIGIBILITY: Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.

    CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK: Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to this position identified as positions of trust will be required to authorize the release of and successfully complete a Fingerprint check.

    PROBATION: All persons, including current City employees, selected from this position will be on probation for 6 months.

    CLASS DESCRIPTION

    An Emergency Dispatcher dispatches police units by two-way radio. Work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities.

    Incumbents receive moderate supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work rotating shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays. Work is performed in a radio communications station. Work requires minimal physical exertion.

    SELECTION PROCESS

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    On or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must:

    EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate.

    AND
    EXPERIENCE: 4 years of experience in public contact work including 1 year of experience in operating two-way radio and related communications equipment.

    OR

    EQUIVALENCIES: Equivalent combination of education and experience; one year of experience in police emergency telephone communications work may be substituted for the one year of operating a two-way radio and related communications equipment.

    KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
    • Ability to use radio communication equipment effectively.
    • Ability to type.
    • Ability to respond to emergencies quickly.
    • Ability to speak distinctly.
    • Ability to work calmly in stressful situations.
    EXAMINATION PROCESS
