    IT Training Specialist

    Job Class: 3611 Department: Information Technology Reports to: IT Support Supervisor

    Summary: Under basic supervision, provides classroom and one-on-one training on basic and advanced personal computer skills for City employees; assures that training systems are results-oriented.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
    • Coordinates and provides classroom and one-on-one training on personal computer applications; develops lesson plans and prepares training resources and tools; delivers training utilizing appropriate adult learning concepts and facilitation skills; provides personal tutoring in computer skills as requested.
    • Develops new training programs and materials; develops, improves, and updates classroom courses, course content, and delivery methods; develops training videos and newsletters; evaluates effectiveness of training classes and programs, and revises content and methods as needed.
    • Evaluates training programs, and assures that they are results-oriented and return value to the organization.
    • Supports the departmental operations with regular and timely attendance.
    • Must have and maintain a cell phone for City use to hold this position.
    • Supports the relationship between the City of Odessa and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
    Minimum Qualifications:

    Education, Training and Experience Guidelines: High School Diploma or GED required; AND two years of computer and customer service experience required.

    Knowledge of:
    • Principles of curriculum development, technical training and adult learning theory.
    • Software applications and operating systems used at City, including MS Office Suite and GIS.
    Skill in:
    • Planning, organizing, scheduling and conducting training classes.
    • Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
    License and certification requirements: A valid Texas State Driver's License is required. Terminal Operator Certification for access to Texas Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) is required. Certification and training as a Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT) is required within six months of hire.
