    Position Overview


    This position is part of the Test Engineering organization will provide comprehensive technical support to Proterra's Technology Lab and work closely with the Battery Test Engineering team.

    You will be responsible for the setup, execution, inspection, troubleshooting, and data collection of high voltage battery testing in the Proterra Technology Lab.

    In addition, you will play a key role in leading The Proterra Technology Lab's commitment to process, organization, and quality.


    About the Role - You will:

    • Prepare engineering builds and execute tests in accordance with detailed work instructions or schematics.
    • Install test articles inside environmental chambers, on vibration tables, and on automated test stations in support of safety, reliability, and characterization tests.
    • Instrument test articles with sensors and setup data acquisition systems.
    • Perform mechanical and electrical inspections on battery packs and components.
    • Record detailed notes and measured data from test execution and inspections.
    • Input measured data into cloud-based systems such as Jira, Confluence, and Jama.
    • Build, modify, and setup test fixtures.
    • Maintain and uphold high safety standards.
    • Perform troubleshooting when issues with test articles and test equipment/fixtures occur.
    • Implement periodic maintenance, organization, and cleanliness of the Proterra Technology Lab, consistent with "5S" principles.
    • Communicate and work collaboratively with a team of technicians, engineers, program managers, and other site leadership team members.
    • Other duties as assigned by management.

    • You will report to the Test Lab Supervisor and collaborate with other Engineering team members located at our headquarters in Burlingame, CA.

    About You:

    Your Experience Includes:

    • 6+ years of mechanical or electrical technician experience, preferably in high voltage battery, automotive, bus or heavy vehicle with a safety-first mentality
    • Hands-on experience with automotive electronic and mechanical systems
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook/Excel/PowerPoint)
    • Proficient with web-based platforms such as Jira, Confluence, and Jama
    • Experience with a variety of hand and power tools
    • Experience using electronic testing, measurement, and vehicle diagnostic equipment (e.g., Isolation tester, Multi-meter, Oscilloscopes, etc.)
    • Experience with setup and use of data acquisition systems and sensors (e., accelerometer, thermocouple, rate meter, shunt)
    • Experience maintaining and tracking tool calibrations, equipment logs, and consumable inventory
    • Physical Demands:
    • May work various shifts as needed; may be requested to travel to different locations.
    • Lifting up to 25 pounds and occasionally 50 pounds.
    • Able to walk, stand, crouch, bench, kneel, lift, carry and reach as needed in large and tight spaces.
    • Good eye/hand coordination and ability to identify color variations, depth perceptions and close or distance visual items.
    • Manual dexterity with occasional repetitive finger motion.
    • Environmental Demands:
    • Ability to work in a test lab environment with varying heat and cold conditions.
    • Wear protective clothing or respiratory protective equipment.
    • Works with irritant chemicals, gases, etc.

    Travel: 0 - 10%


    Compensation:
    $45/hr - $48/hr
