    Job Description:
    School Psychologist/Psychoeducational Examiner


    REQUIREMENTS:

    Education Level:
    Master's degree in school psychology. Meet and maintain South Dakota Department of Education certification requirements for school psychologists.

    Experience Desired:
    Successful practicum/internship preferably in public school setting. Have knowledge of special education processes, evaluations, and eligibility requirements. Have experience conducting functional behavior assessments and developing behavior intervention plans.

    Other Requirements:
    Extensive knowledge of acceptable psychological testing procedures and practices. Knowledge of special education laws and regulations.

    Decision making skills and organization are important aspects of this position, as is the ability to work cooperatively with colleagues.

    Must be able to demonstrate the ability to function effectively as a team member in determining appropriate services for students through such means as child find, eligibility, IEP, 504 plans, etc.

    Demonstrated competency with technology for word processing, spreadsheets, record keeping, and data entry.

    Physical Requirements:

    Constant hearing, hand-eye and mind-eye coordination; frequent repetitive motions with wrists, hands and fingers, scheduling, sitting, speaking, walking, talking, and writing are required.

    The ability to drive a vehicle is required as travel between district buildings is necessary.

    WORKS WITH:
    Building Principals, Special Education Staff, Teacher/Student Assistant Teams, Behavior Specialists, Counselors

    BASIC FUNCTION/PURPOSE Provide a full range of school psychological services to children


    OF POSITION:
    ages 0-21, including screening and assessment, consulting on educational programs, and designing remedial educational programs.

    Function as a member of the multi-disciplinary team to determine students' eligibility for special services, appropriate programming, and on-going progress.

    Implement all procedures to meet compliance standards.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES MAY INCLUDE:


    Maintain and respect confidentiality of student and school personnel information, while maintaining the safety and welfare for all students and staff members.

    Possess knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and policies regarding children's special education eligibility and programming.


    Serve as a liaison between Special Education Director and the school staff and/or parents in the areas of student evaluation, teacher-student consultation, and special education classes.

    Conduct classroom observations and individual psychological evaluations, and consult with appropriate professionals regarding implications and results.

    Maintain accurate records of all psychological services provided.

    Complete clearly written and comprehensive reports which provide practical recommendations.

    Submit all required paperwork within a timely manner, adhering to all federal, state, and district regulations and policies.

    Assist in the interpretation of criteria for determination of eligibility.

    Participate in eligibility meetings, IEP meetings, and other pertinent meetings district-wide.

    Cooperate with staff members and parents in maintaining a positive climate during meetings and/or conferences.

    Consult with private and/or public practitioners regarding student progress and/or needs.


    Consult and/or counsel with students, school staff, and parents regarding academic and/or personal/social needs; provide information regarding community services available to students; make appropriate referrals regarding vocational needs of students.

    Assist teachers in developing specific instructional strategies or programs for students.

    Maintain professional competence through continued education and training.

    Participate in district and building committees and professional development.

    Perform other duties as assigned.

    Climatic Environment - Some district classrooms and work areas are not climate controlled and are subject to extremes of temperature and humidity.

    Hazards - For some buildings, exposure to communicable diseases may be a potential hazard. In science labs, there could be exposure to chemicals and fumes. Equipment that supports classroom instruction could be potentially hazardous under certain conditions.

    Work Year - This position is for a contract year.
