    Job Description Summary:

    This position will work closely with the acting manager of EOL's Data Management and Services Facility in delivering data management and data service tools and activities to support field observations for Earth System science.

    It will also make advanced scientific and technical contributions to the design, implementation, operation, and maintenance of collaborative tools and services, display products, databases, and metadata systems.

    What You Will Do

    Here is a brief summary of what one would expect to be generally responsible for in this role.

    Key Responsibilities:

  • Help prepare proposals and budgeting requirements for future NSF project requests for DMS services.
  • Provide subject-matter expertise on current NSF projects in the pipeline that require DMS services.
  • Contribute to the testing and evaluation of the modernization of the Field Data Archive and Field
  • Catalog interfaces.

    Education & Experience REQUIRED:

  • Bachelors (or equivalent) degree in a scientific discipline pertinent to an NCAR/UCAR scientific program. Considerable experience (e.g., five or more years as an Associate Scientist III or equivalent position), with evidence of professional progress leading to the advanced level of knowledge and skills outlined above
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities REQUIRED:

  • Advanced Demonstrated understanding of scientific needs as connected to field campaigns and experiments, and able to lead efforts in data access, display products, and services necessary for the scientific success of missions.
  • Advanced skill with a variety of field project data, products, measurements, networks, websites, and tools used to enhance data products for use by scientific researchers.
  • Advanced skill with formal presentations, with the ability to convey complex concepts to others of various technical backgrounds.
  • Ability to communicate with a broad range of scientific and technical colleagues in both formal and informal settings.
  • Advanced knowledge of scientific research needs, mission requirements, and operation, including but not limited to atmospheric and arctic sciences.
  • Skill in proposal writing and submission, including statements of work and creating accurate resource and budget estimates.
  • Knowledge of metadata standards, trends, and tools, including informatics, semantic web, XML schemas, and Document Type Definitions (DTDs).
  • Skill in multiple programming and/or scripting languages.
  • Advanced knowledge of real-time scientific data services, web and software engineering, database design, and data communications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
