    Description


    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    1. Escorting patients to exam room and assists in determining medical problems.

    2. Takes vital signs (blood pressure, blood sugar, weight, pulse, respiration, and asks about the patients' level of pain).

    3. Properly documenting results in the medical record.

    4. Assists patients with patient flow through the health center.

    5. Prepares exam rooms and instruments for examination and testing.

    6. Stock supplies in exam rooms.

    7. May sterilize instruments.

    8. Checks appointment schedule and assists receptionist with provider-patient schedules. May have to cover for receptionists during the lunch period or in their absence.

    9. Label and maintains proper storage for specimens and tests. Delivers tests and obtains results.

    10. Completes laboratory requisitions.

    11. Ensures that lab reports, x-rays and other information are in patients records before their visit.

    12. Assists providers and nurses with procedures and treatments as directed.

    13. Issues outpatient material. Assists in application and patient instruction.

    14. Schedules patients for testing procedures.

    15. If applicable, translates for a provider in the language of the patient.

    16. Maintain the strictest confidentiality.

    17. Attends required meetings and training and participates in committees/team as requested

    18. All other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the nurse manager or practice manager

    Pre-employment of physical, criminal background check, and drug testing required

    Requirements

    The successful candidate will:
    • Have a Medical Certification from a national certifying body (e.g., AAMA, NCCT, NHA, AMT).
    • Have a high school diploma or equivalent
    • Have at least two years of successful medical assisting experience in a healthcare setting
    • Have demonstrated success in delivering high-quality patient care, including taking vital signs, appropriately collecting and handling specimens, and performing in-office laboratory and diagnostic tests consistent with a competency level
    • Be willing to work extended hours as needed, including, with notice, some limited evenings and weekends
    • Have proven success in handling confidential information
    • Be comfortable with or be able quickly to learn electronic practice management systems
    • Be able to produce high quality work efficiently and in an environment with changing priorities
    • Have the willingness and ability to work as part of a team and to demonstrate the highest standards of professionalism
    Candidates who are bilingual in Spanish and English and candidates with experience working in a multiple provider medical practice with diverse socio-economically diverse populations are encouraged to apply.
