- Patient Preparation: Interview and educate patients about the procedures, addressing any concerns and obtaining necessary medical history.
- Explain the procedures and ensure patient comfort and cooperation during imaging studies.
- Radiopharmaceutical Administration: Administer radioactive materials to patients through injections, inhalation, or oral ingestion, as prescribed by physicians.
- Monitor patients for adverse reactions and take appropriate actions when necessary.
- Imaging Procedures: Operate and calibrate specialized imaging equipment such as gamma cameras and PET scanners.
- Position patients and ensure proper alignment for optimal image quality.
- Acquire and process images according to established protocols.
- Quality Control: Perform routine quality control tests on imaging equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability.
- Maintain compliance with radiation safety regulations and protocols.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with radiologists, nuclear medicine physicians, and other healthcare professionals to interpret and analyze imaging results.
- Communicate effectively with the healthcare team to provide relevant information for patient care.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including information about administered doses and imaging protocols.
- Ensure proper documentation of procedures and patient information in electronic health records.
- Safety: Adhere to radiation safety guidelines and protocols to minimize exposure to radiation for both patients and staff.
- Implement infection control measures and maintain a clean and safe working environment.
- Continuing Education: Stay informed about advances in nuclear medicine technology and participate in continuing education to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Compliance: NM Techs are responsible for ensuring compliance with CA DPH regulations and adhering to the rules and regulations of the assigned hospitals and/or clinics. This encompasses maintaining licensures, participating in required trainings, and overseeing tasks such as retrieving medical records to uphold regulatory standards.
- Certification from a recognized accrediting body, such as the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB).
- CA DPH State License
- Venipuncture and Fluoroscopy Certification
- Current CPR Card issued by American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
- Must have proof of MMR, Varicella vaccinations or titers.
- Proof of TB/PPD or Chest X-ray within the past 12 Months
- Current Annual Health Clearance
- Reliable source of transportation
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
