Job Summary:The Nuclear Medicine Technologist performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures using radioactive materials and specialized imaging equipment. They work closely with physicians and other healthcare professionals to obtain high-quality images and ensure accurate diagnosis and treatment of patients.
Key Responsibilities:

Patient Preparation: Interview and educate patients about the procedures, addressing any concerns and obtaining necessary medical history.
Explain the procedures and ensure patient comfort and cooperation during imaging studies.
Radiopharmaceutical Administration: Administer radioactive materials to patients through injections, inhalation, or oral ingestion, as prescribed by physicians.
Monitor patients for adverse reactions and take appropriate actions when necessary.
Imaging Procedures: Operate and calibrate specialized imaging equipment such as gamma cameras and PET scanners.
Position patients and ensure proper alignment for optimal image quality.
Acquire and process images according to established protocols.
Quality Control: Perform routine quality control tests on imaging equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability.
Maintain compliance with radiation safety regulations and protocols.
Collaboration: Collaborate with radiologists, nuclear medicine physicians, and other healthcare professionals to interpret and analyze imaging results.
Communicate effectively with the healthcare team to provide relevant information for patient care.
Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including information about administered doses and imaging protocols.
Ensure proper documentation of procedures and patient information in electronic health records.
Safety: Adhere to radiation safety guidelines and protocols to minimize exposure to radiation for both patients and staff.
Implement infection control measures and maintain a clean and safe working environment.
Continuing Education: Stay informed about advances in nuclear medicine technology and participate in continuing education to enhance skills and knowledge.
Compliance: NM Techs are responsible for ensuring compliance with CA DPH regulations and adhering to the rules and regulations of the assigned hospitals and/or clinics. This encompasses maintaining licensures, participating in required trainings, and overseeing tasks such as retrieving medical records to uphold regulatory standards.

Qualifications:

Certification from a recognized accrediting body, such as the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB).
CA DPH State License
Venipuncture and Fluoroscopy Certification
Current CPR Card issued by American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
Must have proof of MMR, Varicella vaccinations or titers.
Proof of TB/PPD or Chest X-ray within the past 12 Months
Current Annual Health Clearance
Reliable source of transportation
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Possible floating between facilities (separate days)
