- Under general supervision and medical direction, provides any or all of the designated respiratory care therapies designed to care for patients with deficiencies and abnormalities, which affect the pulmonary system and associates aspects of cardiopulmonary function.
- This position requires providing care and/or service to a critically ill through sub-acutely ill newborn patient population in a manner that demonstrates an understanding of the functional and/or developmental age of the individual served.
- This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the Mission of San Gabriel Valley Medical Center. Follows appropriate Code Blue notification procedures.
Functions in a Code Blue quickly and calmly providing CPR
Communicates significant changes in patients condition/status in a timely manner
Effectively prioritizes clinical Interventions and care.
ACLS required to assist with procedural sedation.
Ability to perform:
Obtains necessary training prior to initial equipment use.
Assures equipment is in operating order prior to use.
Uses the following equipment in accordance with manufacturers operating instructions, including but not limited to:
Puritan Bennett 7200A & E Ventilator
Siemens Servo S Ventilator
Compressed air/gas tanks
Oxygen administration devices
Pulse Oximeters
Suction Equipment (wall/portable)
Bipap and Cpap Ventilator
Viasys VELA Ventilator
Arterial blood gas analyzers.
Understands actions, side-effects, contra-indications of drugs.
Follows five rights of medication administration.
Adheres to medication policies, practices and standards.
Administers medication, only on physician request and guidance.
Demonstrates knowledge of procedures and post-care.
Maintains current BLS, ACLS, PALS cognitive & skills validation (circle all that apply).
Performs reassessments/care at intervals as required or appropriate to the patients specific needs.
Communicates effectively with physicians and allied health team.
Coordinates respiratory care with other disciplines involved
Involves allied health team members, as necessary.
Actively participates in multidisciplinary care conferences.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:Adult: Education/Training/Experience:
Graduate of an accredited School of Respiratory Therapy
Minimum 2 years of Critical Care Experience required
Adult: Licenses/Certifications
Current CA license as a Respiratory Care Practitioner
Current BCLS-C Card
PALS and ACLS required
