    Description
    Gathers and reviews related patient test reports (i.e. nuclear medicine, cat scans, etc.) selects ultrasound testing techniques which will confirm or negate suspected pathologies and anatomical irregularities; obtains additional medical history, description of complaints, and current treatments from the patients and the patients records.
    Instructs patients concerning examinations; explains equipment operation, scanning procedures, and positioning to patients; answers questions and attempts to allay patient anxieties

    Assists patients onto tables and positions in a manner determined to provide optimal scan results; monitors patient condition during scan; immediately reports significant changes to appropriate medical personnel.

    Performs ultrasound testing; directs ultrasound beams via transducer identifying patient organs and body parts to create diagnostic images which are displayed on an ultrasound monitor; forwards the digital US images to PACS for interpretation by the Radiologists.

    Transports patients to and from the Ultrasound Department when the need arises, as appropriate.

    Presents ultrasound test results and significant related patient medical history and any other diagnostic information to the radiologist for review, confers with radiologist regarding interpretation of test results (i.e., assisting and identifying tumors or cysts) answering questions about specific scans (i.e.

    technique used, equipment settings, angles used, etc.). Performs additional scans and follows special testing instructions as directed by radiologist.

    Performs routine maintenance and calibration on ultrasound equipment; conducts quality control rests and informs superior of the need for adjustments and repairs necessary to preserve or regain operational efficiency of equipment.

    Maintains the ultrasound testing area in good order; insures that linen is changed, exam rooms are clean, carts/tables are clean, and that supplies are sufficient for scheduled tests.

    Adheres to isolation techniques and avoids cross-contamination.

    Remains abreast of developments in the field of Ultrasound by reviewing pertinent literature, attending in-service and continuing education courses, and interacting with peers.

    Acts as physician assistant during sterile procedures such as aspirations, drainages, and biopsies associated with Ultrasound guided procedures.
    Plans and organizes work, defines assignments, and carries out assignments effectively.

    • Understands child growth and development, normal patterns of adolescent behavior and looks for signs of normal aging through a clinical approach from the patient's developmental perspective. Independently anticipates, obtains, integrates and responds appropriately to the age related patient psychosocial and physical needs.
    Requirements
    Associate's Degree; Graduate from an approved and accredited program in Ultrasonography.
