    BAE Systems is seeking a Senior Principal Electrical Engineer.

    This role supports new business capture by defining electrical concepts and architectures, under a quick and agile process, to meet multiple customer requirements, and proposal inputs (cost and technical justification).

    When not supporting proposal activity, will lead electrical engineering teams in design, development, integration/test, and production of complex and dynamic military systems as well as provide SME support for design, integration, manufacturing and testing of hardware and subsystems for Electronic Warfare products across the business.


    The individual must be a self-starter with Agile hardware development experience working with integrated military avionics/electronic hardware and supporting test equipment.


    The selected candidate will be expected to lead electrical/hardware engineering teams through all phases of the product life cycle from conceptual development and detail design through qualification, manufacturing transition and production support.


    The engineer will be responsible for developing robust hardware architectures and solutions to meet demanding customer requirements, and will leverage their electrical engineering expertise to lead and/or perform circuit and CCA design and analysis, FPGA/SoC designs/developments (Xilinx, Microchip), technical trade studies, analog/digital/mixed signal/power interface design, reverse engineering of legacy designs, component selection, evaluation of technology insertion/upgrades, as well as laboratory test and troubleshooting.


    Day to day, activities may range from planning work products and managing subcontract developments to supporting product builds & integration efforts.


    With a product focus, the individual is also expected to actively partner with operations personnel to develop solutions that adhere to DTUPC, DFT, and DFM requirements.

    Additionally, the engineer will support resolution of technical issues that are discovered during manufacture and test of deliverable hardware. This will include evaluating and troubleshooting LRU and circuit card level issues, assess test faults for root

    cause, identify disposition/corrective actions, and evaluate test equipment performance and integrity.

    The selected electrical engineer is expected to have applicable experience in the following areas:


    • Design of electronic hardware architectures that leverage embedded processors, microcontrollers, and VHDL based FPGAs/SoCs that provide capability and functionality to a larger system
    • Digital, Analog, Mixed Signal, and Power design and troubleshooting of DoD military electronics/avionics equipment, with an excellent working knowledge of common electronic circuits and components
    • Agile hardware development, risk-reduction prototyping, and requirements-driven design and verification
    • Knowledge of engineering development processes for aero/defense industry, including designing and testing to MIL-STD-704, MIL-STD-461
    • Demonstrated experience in Product/Factory Support
    • State-of-the-art electrical engineering design/analysis/simulation tools
    • Familiarity with design, analysis and manufacturing standards associated with complex multilayer rigid and rigid-flex CCAs
    • Strong hands-on
    laboratory experience with instrumentation, equipment, and processes


    • Working experience with Interface standards including military/avionics communication buses (i.e. RS-485, Mil-Std-1553B, Ethernet)

    Required Education, Experience, & Skills


    • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with 6
    OR a Master s Degree and 4

    years of relevant experience in the aero/defense industry


    • Active (Eligible for) DOD Secret Clearance HIGHLY PREFERRED
    • 6
    years of demonstrated experience in hardware architecting, product development and support of complex DoD military electronics/avionics equipment


    • Solid fundamentals of digital/analog/mixed signal/power electronics and interface/communication/memory standards
    • Experience with state-of-the-art electrical engineering development tools
    • Understanding of complex electronics manufacturing and test methodologies
    • Excellent problem solving skills, judgment, and analytical capability, with proven ability to research and apply electrical engineering principles and theories to solve electrical engineering problems.
    • Demonstrated experience with Agile hardware development, risk-reduction prototyping, and requirements-driven design and verification
    • Knowledge of engineering development processes for aero/defense industry, including designing and testing to MIL-STD-704, MIL-STD-461
    • Demonstrated leadership capabilities in multi-disciplinary team environment with strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience presenting technical information to program teams and/or customers.
    • Motivated self-starter with ability to effectively work in a multi-disciplinary team environment
    • Ability to close on discrete tasking in a timely manner, within allocated budget, and lead others to closure - Own the Design

    • Experience with XILINX & Microchip FPGA/SoC developments and toolsets.
    • Experience with MATLAB/Simulink, Analog Devices design tools and calculators
    • Experience designing Synchronous Buck, Buck-Boost, Linear regulators, poly-phase designs
    • Experience designing operational amplifier circuits
    • Experience designing isolated topologies such as Flyback, Push-Pull, Full-Bridge, Half-Bridge, Two-Switch Forward

    Pay Information

    Full-Time Salary Range:
    $ $191070

    This range is based on our market pay structures.

    However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to:

    business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
