The Commission directs the growth, operation and business activities of RIC and works tirelessly to ensure it continues to be an affordable option for local, regional, and out-of-state travelers.

Internship Description

The internship at Richmond International Airport involves administrative and operational work, aimed at developing airport management skills. Interns monitor airfield, terminal, landside operations, security, safety, ground transportation, and other passenger-related activities. Assignments vary in nature and increase in difficulty with the objective of the intern advancing to higher-level airport responsibilities, under the supervision of a manager.

Open to: Graduate students

Majors/fields: Aviation Management, Flight Management, Commercial Aviation; or related fields

When: 12-Months program

Must be able to work up to 26 hours per week, internship is on-site only

Duties and Responsibilities

Performs a variety of projects designed to develop proficiency in airport administration.
Issues notices to airmen (NOTAMS) and airport advisories concerning field conditions.
Performs other related work responsibilities as required/assigned.
Interns inspect airfield facilities for safety, security, and operational efficiency, including grounds, runways, taxiways, gates, and service roads. They monitor airfield activities during shifts, arrange escorts for individuals using the airfield, and participate in training seminars.

Requirements

Learn the techniques of planning, coordinating, and directing operations of the airport system.
Prepare and interpret a variety of reports.
Analyze procedures, policy and problems and prepare evaluations and to recommend revisions of these procedures, policies, and problems.
