    Primary Job Location: Elmira, NY

    Employment Format: Full Time/On site

    Position Overview: The successful candidate will be responsible for executing rolling stock commodity strategies that are in support of strategic purchasing initiatives. Reporting to the Purchasing Manager, the Buyer will help develop commodity strategies pursuant to identifying productivity and supplier rationalization opportunities for direct materials. Will work as a liaison updating and applying information in coordination with international Procurement Team in Spain for the US Procurement Team.

    Responsibilities:

    • Work directly with vendors to place purchase orders, monitor any updates or adjustments to the orders as needed.
    • Must be able to build rapport with vendors and be able to travel to suppliers sites when needed
    • Must be proactive and able to use internal resources to solve problems and/or offer ideas and solutions to senior management.
    • Experience with inventory planning, general purchasing practices, contract negotiations and supplier management.
    • Generate reports via the ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system that will be used for improving processes and procedures within the department.
    • Experience in sourcing/purchasing materials and determining the right vendors based on quality, cost and schedule constraints.
    Qualifications:

    Required:
    • Associates degree in Business, Operations Management, or Supply Chain or equivalent required
    • A minimum of two (2) years' experience in a supply chain purchasing role, planning, and/or scheduling is required
    • Microsoft Office proficient
    • Excellent Customer/Vendor relations
    • Will have excellent analytical and communication skills
    • Ability to work in a team environment and to build and manage business relationships
    • Strong work ethic with ability to work well under pressure, high initiative, and ability to multitask.
    • Must have a professional attitude exercising confidentiality as needed.
    • Demonstrated ability to work with appropriate sense of urgency and drive for results.
    • Must be well organized with the ability to handle multiple assignments and prioritize appropriately.
    Recommended:
    • Bachelor's degree preferred
    • Blueprint reading a plus

    Notes:
    • Salary: $60,000 - $80,000
    • Follow all safety requirements of company, project, and relevant authorities including, wearing of appropriate PPE, attending training, and following procedures
