    Job Description Job Description SummaryThe Accounting Manager will lead a team through daily accounting operations and lead the accounting close process (reports to the Director of Accounting).

    The Accounting Manager will also lead the consolidation process and have a strong understanding of the companys internal processes and controls, engaged in continuous process improvement.

    The Accounting Manager should be a self-starter and leader, eager to grow and progress at SPIAreas of responsibilities may include but are not limited to:Own the numbers at SPI.

    From daily activity to month-end and year-end close through ownership of the consolidation process and reviews, this role is responsible to ensure the financial statement/trial balance figures are complete and accurate.

    Project manage the close process and calendar.
    Lead the consolidation process and efforts for the company, ensuring accuracy and completeness of our overall financial position. Liase with budgeting and forecasting, and other accounting team members.
    Review (and in some more complex accounts, prepare) monthly balance sheet reconciliations and research/correction of related accounting activity.

    Develop analytical skills by performing in-depth review and analysis of financial statements, especially those acquisitions that are not currently on the main accounting system.

    Lead the team and CFO through the fluctuations monthly.


    Lead a team of accountants:
    Currently 2 Seniors, 1 Staff and 1 temp, in daily activities.
    Review the teams work, coach and help the team grow.

    Work with a Senior Accountant to lead the development and documentation of business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.

    Recommend updates as they are needed.

    Support the Director of Accounting in a variety of areas:
    Risk management, audit & tax, process improvement, internal controls, integration of acquired companies and various special projects.
    Perform technical accounting research and prepare accounting memos to document and support the companys position. Review with Director of Accounting.
    In line with major goals of the department, engage in continuous process improvement efforts to streamline accounting processes.
    Communicate with Director of Accounting on work status and issues that arise for self and the team.

    Provide outstanding customer service to our branches, by:
    Co-lead District-level review calls to better understand the business and challenges/opportunities for growth; follow-up and resolution of issues.
    Be well versed in inventory at SPI, and how all the pieces work through purchase and sale of goods.
    Fielding questions and queries from the branches, seeking out answers.


    Note:
    The treasury function is a separate department also reporting to the Director of Accounting.

    Education, Skills, Experience, and KnowledgeBachelors degree in Accounting and/or 5+ years of related experienceCPA license, or progression towards license is preferredExperience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year end close processOutstanding at customer service, especially our internal clients and branchesKnowledge of basic accounting procedures and principlesStrong attention to detail and accuracyProficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) and ERP systemsExperience in distribution and/or building and construction industry is preferredWork EnvironmentOffice environmentPhysical demands may include but are not limited to:Moderate walking, standing, and/or climbing; light lifting and carrying, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching.
