    Description

    We currently are seeking a Music Instructor (Temporary/25 hours per week) at our Los Angeles Center. Reporting to the Education Programs Manager, this position is responsible for:

    Leading and directing student musicians to deliver a professional music performance at the annual Johnny Mercer Concert.

    • Teaching a performance class that will meet twice a week for two hours each class (four hours of instruction/seat time) where students will learn, rehearse, and perform a variety of Johnny Mercer songs which will culminate in a performance in June.
    • Effectively teaching visually impaired students in a diverse field of music and performance;
    • Researching subject matter and developing curriculum for classroom instruction;
    • Preparing lesson plans;
    • Assuring classrooms are set up each day with supplies, tools, equipment and materials needed for an effective and safe learning environment;
    • Monitoring, evaluating and documenting student progress, recommending additional resources and support to students and families as needed;
    • Conducting seminars and workshops throughout the region for families, caregivers and professional to better assist the visually impaired and promote independent living;
    • Training and directing the work of volunteers assisting in classrooms.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Associates or Bachelor's degree in a designated field of expertise, Master's degree is desirable;
    • Through knowledge of Music with the ability to build and present performance groups is required;
