- Develops effective advising relationships by being responsive and employing a variety of formats to meet students' needs, including face-to-face and via technology tools
- May interact with prospective and admitted students in support of admission and recruitment efforts; may include collaboration with Illinois Tech's recruiting and admission teams as well as SSB administration and Program Directors
- Supports students' academic success through collaborative partnerships with academic Program Directors, faculty, Stuart and Illinois Tech administration to manage functions such as: registration and grading issues, course permissions, management of credit hour limits, program of study updates, transfer credit documentation, satisfactory progress monitoring, and scholarship eligibility
- Supports the Director of Academic Affairs and Advising in the design and implementation of new departmental processes, procedures, and policies for the Office of Academic Affairs and Advising
- Identifies and recommends ways to improve and innovate student advising offerings to remain responsive to students' needs, changes in student population, cross-cultural considerations, and changes to academic programs and courses
- Ensure timely and accurate awarding of degrees through regular monitoring of academic progress, degree audits, and posting of degrees and concentrations in the student information system
- Student Assistant Supervision: Manage the selection, training, and supervision of the student assistants needed to support the core functions of the team
- Events & Programming: Design, develop and implement new or manage existing programs, workshops, and events that support students' success
- Evaluation and Assessment: Develop and improve data collection and analysis to monitor satisfaction and assess the effectiveness of student success efforts
- Supports the Senior Director on special projects or other duties as assigned
- May participate in the planning and execution of events and co-curricular programs, including Student Orientation, Commencement, and the Advancing Career and Education (ACE) Program

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Reporting to the Senior Director of Academic Affairs and Advising, the Academic Advisor works with students as a member of the Academic Administration and Student Success team to identify and develop their academic goals through an ongoing collaborative advising relationship that supports their personal and professional growth. The Advisor supports the day-to-day operations of the Office of Academic Affairs and Advising (OAAA) and will assist with designing, implementing, and maintaining policies and processes for OAAA. This position maintains effective collaborative relationships with Stuart School of Business (SSB) faculty and administration as well as other Illinois Tech units.
COMMUNICATIONS
Effective, courteous, and responsive communication skills (oral, written, presentation) required to interact with internal and external stakeholders at a variety of levels.
Experience delivering presentations to a variety of audiences required. Ability to effectively and respectfully represent self, department, and school at special events that affect the image and reputation of Illinois Tech's Stuart School of Business.
CUSTOMER SERVICE
Ability to connect with and build effective advising relationships with a diverse, dominantly international, student population essential. Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain positive and productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders required. Must maintain professional and respectful demeanor at all times.
Special Schedule Requirements
Although primary work location will be the Downtown Campus, occasional work at the Mies Campus will be required. Some evenings and weekends are required with the benefit of a flexible schedule and/or work-from-home arrangements.

Qualifications
Education & Experience
Master's degree in higher education administration, college student personnel, business, or related field required. Experience working with diverse student populations, including adult students and international students strongly preferred. Prior teaching or facilitation experience strongly preferred. Demonstrated experience with cross-cultural communication strongly preferred. Experience working with students both one-on-one and in groups preferred. Academic advising experience preferred. Ability to speak one or more languages in addition to English preferred.
Knowledge & Skills
REQUIRED:
Supports the Director in budgeting and planning for advising activities as part of the designated academic or Student Affairs budget. May supervise 5-7 student assistants and interns who work a combined total of 2,800-3,000 hours per year. Prior supervision of student employees/interns preferred. No direct budget responsibility.
