- Assists physician in maintaining an effective student health program which includes physical examination, medical evaluation of presenting student/patient, composing immediate care plans, administering actual medical care, and follow-up care on each student/patient. This requires medical education to the student/patient as well as treatment plan instructions to the student/patient in collaboration with Physician and Nurse Practitioner.
- Under the supervision of Physician, administers immunizations, oral/parenteral medications, and overserves student/patient for negative reaction. Takes and records student/patient vital signs. Interviews student/patient to obtain health histories, assesses current conditions and needs for treatment, and/or documents pertinent information to student/patient health facts.
- Performs laboratory test such as Rapid Flu, Mono, and Strep tests, urine pregnancy test, urine analysis, and glucometer readings.
- Keeps up-to-date and accurate confidential information obtained on each student/patient in an electronic health record.
- Assists attending Physician and Nurse Practitioner with all examination and procedures, following all medical directives in the care of student/patient and recording all information and progress accordingly. Explains treatment and procedures to student/patient and instructs student/patient in health and hygiene maintenance and self-administration of prescribed medication.
- Assist Director with stocking and maintaining complete medical facility of equipment and supplies for dispensing and treatment of student/patients, and operation of four exam rooms.
- Provides supervision for Student Worker in collaboration with Director, including overseeing their daily operations, scheduling, performance of duties, and evaluation.
- Performs duties for the Office of Public Health/University Health Services student/patient STD testing/counseling program, including follow up visits, phone calls, and other communications.
- Assists Physician in evaluating and referring student/patient requiring special medical attention in the areas of psychiatric and psychological consultation, mental health counseling, venereal disease clinics, birth control clinics, specialist such as dermatologists, orthopedic surgeons, etc., and family physician's complete evaluation, medical work-up and observations.
- Works with Director to maintain up-to-date procedures and equipment to handle minor emergencies. Work with Administrative Coordinator to determine repairs or a need for new equipment.
- Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Student Wellness and Support Services or Vice President for Student Affairs.
