- Function as the mid-level provider for newborn patients by:
- Assessing, planning, and evaluating medical care under the direction of the attending pediatrician.
- Reporting accurately and concisely to attending pediatrician and in problem-oriented documentation.
- Ordering and interpreting laboratory data and plain x-ray film as appropriate.
- Writing appropriate orders for medications, IV therapy, and more.
- Attend high-risk deliveries and stabilize patients.
- Go on transports to transfer newborns to the NICU at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital or another NICU when needed.
- Attend and provide newborn care, resuscitation, and stabilization for all deliveries as required.
- Offer consultation to administrative, nursing, and medical staff.
- Direct competency assessment programs for nursing staff and participate in education programs.
- Submit billing in a timely manner and engage in self-development activities.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and the development of policies and procedures at the Family Birthing Center.
- Act as a role model and resource for peers and staff.
- Maintain good rapport and cooperative relationships.
- Ensure patient and hospital information confidentiality.
- Assume responsibility for job duties and maintain safety standards.
- Align behaviors with the Mission, Vision, and Values of the Health System.
- Provide quality patient care tailored to specific needs.
- Successful completion of an accredited NNP program.
- NNP Certification.
- State of Michigan License.
- Minimum of two years of experience in a NICU.
- BLS and NRP Certifications.
- Clinical knowledge and interpersonal skills necessary for effective communication.
