- Is responsible for setting the climate, discipline code and conduct of the students.
- Designs the students' schedule for the year and makes the necessary commitment of time and resources to effect a balanced program.
- Approves travel of students to attend school related activities and opportunities.
- Attends placement meetings as required for PL94-142.
- Conducts the on-going evaluation of the professional staff as prescribed by the laws of the State of South Dakota and the Board of Education.
- Provides supervision and direction to the activities directors in their preparation of a well-balanced co-curricular program for the students of the system.
- Provides supervision and direction to the guidance department in the providing of pertinent services to the students of the district.
- Administers in cooperation with the Assistant Principal and makes appropriate assignments as deemed necessary. Meets regularly with Assistant Principal to resolve mutual concerns and to plan the needs of the students.
- Is responsible for working with the staff members to implement procedures that will provide for an educational atmosphere.
- Will model and maintain a professional attitude in the learning environment.
- Conducts regular staff meetings, advisory meetings and committee meetings as necessary.
- Responsible for personnel recommendations, certified and classified, to the Superintendent. This would include the recruitment of, interviewing of, and recommending of individuals for available assignments.
- Has skills and expertise in formal observation and feedback to improve instruction.
- Can demonstrate expertise in effective classroom management procedures and routines.
- Schedules use of buildings and grounds for the Middle School site.
- Supervises the system of accounting to include attendance, report cards, rooms, students, equipment and materials.
- Prepares appropriate reports at the request of the Superintendent of Schools, school regulatory agencies, or the State of South Dakota.
- Develops and maintains appropriate public relations with the community (programs and operations).
- Responsible for the maintaining of an organized inventory system and a budget process in compliance with the business office. Supervises the activity account.
- Performs other duties as necessary or assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.
