Job Description

The Engineering Technician III performs assignments that are not completely standardized or prescribed,selectsoradapts standard procedures orequipment,using fully applicableprecedents,receivesinitial instructions,equipmentrequirements, and advice fromsupervisor orengineeras needed, performsrecurring workindependently.

Work isreviewed for technical adequacy or conformity withinstructions.

Thistechnician performsat thislevel one or a combination of suchtypicaldutiesas:

Constructing components, sub-units, or simplemodelsoradapts standard equipment; may troubleshoot andcorrect malfunctions;
Following specific layout and scientific diagrams to construct and package simple devices and sub-units of equipment.
Conducting various tests or experiments which may require minor modifications in test setups or procedures as well as subjective judgments in measurement, selecting, preparing, and operating standard test equipment and records test data;
Extracting and compiling a variety of engineering data fromfieldnotes, manuals,lab reports,etc., processingdata,identifyingerrors orinconsistencies, selectingmethods of datapresentation.

Assisting in design modification by compiling datarelatedto design,specifications, andmaterialsthat arepertinent to specificitems of equipment or component parts; developinginformationconcerning previousoperationalfailures andmodificationsand using judgment and initiativeto recognizeinconsistencies or gapsin data and seeksourcestoclarify information.

Job Requirements

Technical school diploma.
3 year work related experience in electrical/electronic systems. Performs assignments that are not completely standardized or prescribed. Selects or adapts standard procedures or equipment, using fully applicable precedents.

Receives initial instruction, equipment retirements, and advice from supervisor or engineer as needed; performs recurring work independently; work is reviewed for technical adequacy or conformity with instruction.
