POSITION SUMMARY

The First Assistant Engineer plays a crucial role in overseeing vessel equipment operation and maintenance, reporting to the Chief Engineer. This safety-sensitive position involves both on-board and onshore responsibilities, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and regulatory standards. Represented by the Marine Engineers' Beneficial Association (MEBA), this role is integral to the smooth operation of passenger vessels.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintain engine room watch, monitor machinery performance, and record vital data.
Notify Chief Engineer promptly of any operational irregularities.
Assume responsibility for life-saving equipment during emergency situations.
Conduct essential engine room tasks, including bilge and sewage pumping and machinery maintenance.
Collaborate on repairs and maintain cleanliness in the engine room.
Stand night watch and may represent Port Engineer during shipyard visits.
Deliver exceptional customer service and complete assigned projects efficiently.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to diagnose machinery issues.
Proficiency in interpreting blueprints and technical manuals.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team.
Competency in utilizing various mechanical and electrical tools.
Commitment to providing superior customer service in all interactions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

U.S. Citizenship and minimum age requirement of 21.
High School Diploma or equivalent; related experience is valued.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS

Valid U.S.C.G. licensure corresponding to vessel horsepower and sea service.
Ability to obtain Chief Engineer's license within designated timeframe.
Possession of a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) and valid driver's license.
Preferred: Chief Engineer's license for vessels 4,000 HP (Limited).

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Subject to drug testing, background checks, and pre-employment physical.
Enrollment in direct deposit or payroll card program for bi-weekly pay.
Availability for duty at any hour to ensure continuous facility operation.
Compliance with drug testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
