    Asa Registered Nurse (RN) in Weston Hospital's Emergency Department,you will be responsible for providing direct nursing care,implementing and monitoring patient care plans, administeringmedication and treatments, assessing and coordinating patients'discharge plans and monitoring, recording and communicatingpatients' condition.

    Responsibilities:

    • Provides direct patientcare based upon nursing assessment to patients who have a varietyof medical and/or surgical conditions, following establishedstandards, department guidelines and hospital policies andprocedures.
    • Involves patient/family in thedevelopment of care plan. Updates care plandaily.
    • Collaborates with members ofmultidisciplinary team regarding each patient'scare.
    • Prioritizes and performs direct care topatients according to policy.
    • Explains anddocuments procedures andinterventions.
    • Identifies and performsappropriately in emergent situations.
    • Assistsmultidisciplinary team with all processes related to patientcare.

    • Demonstrates the ability to insert andmanage the care for all IV's, both peripheral and central access,per hospital policy.
    • Documents medications onmedication administration record(MAR).
    • Monitors patient's response tomedications; documents and reportsappropriately.
    • Reports medication errors andadverse reactions per hospitalpolicy.
    • Demonstrates knowledge concerningmedications, including side effects; educates patients on theirmedications and their side effects.
    • Safelyadministers blood and blood products per hospitalpolicy.
    • Verifies patient ID per hospitalpolicy.
    • Performs all pyxis monitoring andcounts per hospital policy.
    • Ensures medicationsare wasted and documented asappropriate.
    • Assesses patient/familyeducational readiness and barriers. Develops plan based oneducational assessment.
    • Documents educationalassessment, plan, intervention andoutcome.
    • Utilizes critical thinking based ondata; rounds on patients with physician and other members of thehealthcare team as appropriate when makingdecision.
    • Collaborates in the assignment ofpatients to staff based on acuity and competency ofstaff.
    • Functions as charge nurse onunit.
    • Participates in coordination/delivery ofapproved Facility events.

    • Utilizesthe nursing process: patient advocacy, maintenance of aseptictechnique, medication administration, documentation of treatmentsand care, management of equipment, patient safety and monitoring ofvitalsigns.

    Education:

    • Graduateof an accredited school ofnursing.

    Certifications:

    • Current state licensure asRegistered Nurse (RN).
    • Proof of Basic LifeSupport (BLS) certification must be presented uponhire.
    • If in a Critical Care area an AdvancedCardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification must be presented uponhire or within first year of employment.
    • Withinone year of hire RNs in Children's Hospital and Children's Hospitalfor Rehabilitation will achieve and maintain Pediatric AdvancedLife Support (PALS) with the exception of the Neonatal IntensiveCare Unit RNs who must achieve and maintain Neonatal ResuscitationProgram (NRP) provider status and RNs in the Special Delivery Unit,who must achieve and maintain Advanced Cardiac Life Support(ACLS).
    • (ONS) Chemo/Bio course complete within2 years of employment if employed on units inpatient and/oroutpatient where chemo is administered.
    • If inan Adult/Combined EDs, ACLS upon hire or within one year ofbeginning work in the Emergency Department.
    • Ifin a Pediatric ED, PALS upon hire or within one year of beginningwork in the Emergency Department.
    • In DedicatedTrauma Centers, Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC - adult) orEmergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC - pediatric) upon hire orwithin 24 months of beginning work in the EmergencyDepartment.
    • Vascular Access Registered Nurse(VARN) program attendance required and obtains either a CertifiedRegistered Nurse Infusion (CRNI) or Vascular Access Board Certified(VA-BC) certification upon hire or within a year of hire inPeripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICC)areas.

    WorkExperience:

    • Minimum oneyear current acute care RN experience in a hospital settingrequired for acute care settings.
    • Minimum oneyear current acute care RN experience and/or skilled nursingfacility (SNF) experience required for SNF caresettings.
    • Minimum one year current acute careRN experience and/or rehab experience required for rehab caresettings.
    • Minimum one year current acute careRN experience and/or Emergency Department (ED) experience requiredfor EDsettings.

    PhysicalRequirements:

    • Requiresfrequent walking from department to department; requires sitting ata workstation or desk; requires standing; work may includeoccasional pushing and/or pulling, lifting, and carrying objectsweighing up to 50 lbs., such as files, documents and computerprintouts.
    • Work requires finger dexterity andeye/hand coordination to operate a computer keyboard at a moderateskill level.
