    Coker University is seeking applicants who are passionate about student success for the position of
    Coordinator of First Year Experience and Student Transitions. This position reports to the Director of
    Student Success in the Division of Institutional Effectiveness.


    PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
    ● Experience in onboarding/orientation program management.
    ● Experience in academic mentoring/advising at the college or mentoring/advising in a professional
    level.
    ● Teaching experience in a first-year seminar or content-level coursework. Experience designing or
    coordinating first-year experience courses preferred.
    ● Knowledge of diverse constituencies, especially students at all levels of academic achievement
    and diverse student populations, including those with learning disabilities.
    ● Ability to maintain records; use educational/training course management software; work with
    databases as well as student utilization software; and prepare reports.
    ● Excellent communication skills
    ● Self-motivated with the ability to motivate others.


    QUALIFICATIONS
    ● Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
    ● Two plus year's experience in one of the following: onboarding support, student support, student
    services, advising, other academic effort.


    POSITION SUMMARY:
    The primary responsibility of the Coordinator of the First-Year Experience and Student Transitions is the
    successful implementation of a comprehensive first-year experience that begins at the point of deposit and
    concludes at the end of the first year. This position, in collaboration with the Director of Student Success,
    seeks to offer integrated, first-year initiatives and transition opportunities to undergraduate students in
    ways that promote student engagement, retention, and academic success. The Coordinator's primary
    responsibilities include the oversight of Coker Connections (summer orientation) and CobraQuest (new
    student orientation), design and oversight of a campus-wide peer engagement program (Commissioners),
    design and oversight of CU 101 Coker University's First-Year Experience course, and delivery of
    programming and training in support of student success for new students.The Coordinator will maintain
    clear partnerships with faculty and staff across departments and divisions to promote student success
    within and across the first year and beyond.


    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Orientation
    ● Coordinate, implement and assess an Orientation Program designed to onboard all incoming,
    first-year students - fall and spring. This program orients all incoming, first-year students to the
    university's core curriculum and advising processes while engaging students in financial literacy,
    academic preparedness, and student engagement workshops.

    ● With the assistance of other offices such as Admissions and Residence Life, monitor and update
    the engagement of deposited students (including transfers) prior to each fall and spring semester.
    ● Serve as a liaison to Admissions to ensure that all new student on-boarding expectations are being
    met by deposited students.
    ● Serve as a liaison to Advising efforts to ensure that advisors have access to pre-enrollment data
    to successfully schedule incoming first-year students.


    Commissioners Program (Peer Mentoring)
    ● Convene and lead Coker's Commissioner Program to maximize the efficiency and effectiveness
    of the program.
    ● Manage the hiring and selection processes for peer mentors across campus programs.
    ● Design and offer a unified training program for all peer mentors.
    ● Assess the effectiveness of each Commissioner's efforts on student engagement.


    Learning Cohort Program
    ● Support the Director of Student Success in the expansion and growth of the college's learning
    community program including the recruitment of faculty directors.
    ● Collaborate with the Director of Student Success in the review and placement of applicants to the
    University's learning communities and living-learning communities.
    ● Engage learning community peer mentors (Student Fellows) in comprehensive training that
    prepares them to mentor first-year learning community students.

    CU 101
    ● In collaboration with Academic Affairs, design and implement a successful First-Year Experience
    course with demonstrated impact on student retention from first to second year.
