Assistant Professor – Humanities

Our Humanities department is currently seeking an experienced full-time faculty member in History to expand the offerings of the department, beginning in the Fall 2026 term (August The regional specialization is open to any non-U.S. area and training, and candidates with training or certification in Digital Humanities, Public History, or Museum Studies are preferred. This position calls for a candidate with a commitment to innovation in curriculum development. Our faculty members must have a desire for designing and implementing effective educational strategies geared towards neurodiverse students.


The teaching load for this position consists of 15 credit hours per semester (as defined in the Faculty Handbook), composed of general education courses and advanced level electives.

The college offers several preparatory summer programs, as well as other term courses, which provide opportunities, as available, to teach classes for additional renumeration.


The ideal candidate for this position will have their PhD in History conferred no later than May 31, 2026, training and/or certification in Digital Humanities, Public History, or Museum Studies and brings a minimum of two (2) years of post-secondary teaching experience in a small classroom setting, with a robust background in teaching general education courses and upper-level electives at the undergraduate level desired.

JOB SUMMARY:


Faculty members at Beacon College develop a healthy and caring environment that offers a variety of options and opportunities for active participation of students in the learning process.

Major responsibilities of faculty include taking an active part in the life of the college, teaching a prescribed class load as defined by the Faculty Handbook, exhibiting professional growth through development opportunities, and supporting the general objectives, mission, and vision of the college.

Additional responsibilities include developing course materials, mentoring students, contributing to departmental planning and curriculum development, scholarship and professional development as defined in the Faculty Handbook and using the Boyer Model as a guide, and service to the college as defined in the Faculty Handbook.


DUTIES AND TASKS:
Deliver engaging and effective instruction in general education courses and/or upper division electives within the field of study;
Contribute to the development and enhancement of course materials, ensuring alignment with departmental and institutional learning objectives;
Create an inclusive and interactive classroom environment that supports students from diverse backgrounds, encouraging active participation and critical thinking;
Implement meaningful assessment methods to evaluate student learning outcomes and provide timely feedback;
Hold regular office hours to offer academic support, guidance, and mentorship to students;
Engage in ongoing scholarship and professional development to stay current with best practices and expertise in the field, teaching pedagogy, and participate in departmental initiatives;
Serve the College through various activities including, but not limited to; participation in college committees, leadership of student organizations/clubs, student recruitment, and service to the greater community;
Maintain active participation in professional organizations as appropriate;
Support students in achieving their goals, including attaining a college degree and career securement and attainment;
Interact in an effective and encouraging manner with students, both individually and in group settings;
Communicate and articulate concepts in an organized manner both verbally and in writing;
Operate a computer and other office equipment to prepare instructional documents, answer email correspondence, and complete other activities necessary to perform the essential functions of the position;
Use technology inside the classroom to teach and communicate with students, and in the delivery of instruction; and
Other duties as assigned.


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge:
PhD conferred no later than May 31, 2026.
Training and/or certification in Digital Humanities, Public History, or Museum Studies
Minimum two (2) years of post-secondary teaching experience in a small classroom setting preferred.
Demonstrated application of Universal Design for Learning framework to curriculum development.
Experience working with a neurodiverse student population preferred.


Skills:
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and/or other similar software.
Experience with student learning management systems, such as Canvas, used in the division and on campus.
Strong communication skills, verbally, in writing, and in person.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Skilled in diverse teaching styles, with the flexibility to accommodate individual learning styles.
Effective time management skills.


Abilities:
Proven or presumed teaching ability.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities with attention to detail.
Maintains a professional and patient approach when working with students, faculty, staff, and other Beacon College community members.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends for events and special projects is required.
Ability to read and understand content in order to assist students when they are having difficulty interpreting concepts.
