    Job Summary


    This position is directly involved in supporting high profile and key WEC initiatives and will interface across all areas within WEC and all levels including Senior Management.

    In addition, this position is a great opportunity for personal growth and development as you will learn various aspects of the business (regulatory, legal, finance, Bulk Electric System, and electric markets).

    The Engineer will support the company's electric utilities' regulated and non-regulated generation planning processes and market operations through support of fuel plan cost modeling, transmission and energy market analysis, long term resource planning, and regulatory filings.

    This will include developing models to support the need and near term impact of WEC's transition to a renewable portfolio.

    This position also supports peers and other areas within WEC Energy Group WEC Infrastructure and Fuels department by analyzing power system models, power flow software, transmission/distribution planning data, and state estimation data for electric planning/operations purposes.


    This position is part of a job family (Associate Engineer, Engineer, and Senior Engineer) and placement is based on candidate's experience.

    Job Responsibilities

    Build, upgrade, maintain, and operate the fuel cost and capacity expansion model used in projecting electric fuel costs for regulatory fuel cost recovery, financial management, and long term resource planning
    Develop and analyze economic evaluations for future energy resources (i.e., solar, wind, batteries, natural gas, etc.)
    Understand how our generation units operate in the MISO market and factors that impact those operations
    Utilize performance monitoring/optimization tools, calculations, tests and engineering analysis to develop recommendations to maintain and improve plant, system and/or equipment performance, efficiency and reliability
    Support with annual capacity auction process, generator interconnection process and market modeling
    Model and analyze the transmission network to produce reliability assessments and develop plans to meet future system needs
    Create reports and applications to support transmission power flows, constraint impact analysis and other complex analysis
    Communicate with various groups inside and outside the company to investigate and resolve complex technical issues
    Minimum Qualifications

    Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
    0-2 years' relevant engineering experience (internship/co-op experience can be included as relevant engineering)
    Preferred Qualifications

    Transmission system and ISO market knowledge/experience
    Plant engineering/operating experience
    Strong analytical ability and advanced knowledge of Excel, Visual Basic, databases, and/or other programming software
    Experience with MATLAB, Power World, PSSE or other relevant software
