    Mechanical Engineer – Water & Wastewater

    Location:
    Derby or Birmingham
    Our Client is a leading design and build contractor operating in the water sector.

    They have over 1,000 staff working across regional centres, primarily supporting multiple long-term water sector frameworks through a number of joint ventures and alliances.

    They are recruiting a number of Mechanical Engineers who will assist with developing the mechanical engineering design aspects of a major new water recycling and sludge treatment centre.

    In this role you will produce quality engineering deliverables to programme to support the Development Consent Order (DCO) process, detailed design, construction, commissioning and completion.

    With a focus on innovation, environmental sustainability, safety and standards, you'll play a key part in this project.
    You will report the Technical Manager and the responsibilities will include:
    Lead the preparation and analysis of key mechanical options, for review and agreement with the client and key project stakeholders ensuring risks and gaps are mitigated whilst always upholding the Project Basis of Design
    Design calculations facilitating the sizing of mechanical, hydraulic, power generating and building services equipment
    Liaise with the supply chain to ensure the latest technologies are assessed and understood as part of the optioneering process
    Collaborate with the design team to develop 3D models and solutions
    Oversee the outputs for processes including P&IDs and data sheets. HAZID and HAZOP studies and mechanical input into commissioning plans, including proposed performance tests
    Ensure all technical work is carried out to the highest standard by embracing Project 13 and NIC "Good Design" Principles and use them to influence the structure of design delivery
    Identify and promote opportunities to meet the project digital, sustainability, innovation and people objectives

    Produce mechanical design layouts which are cost effective, meet the requirements of the specification and which can be purchased, installed and commissioned effectively.

    Ensure that plant and equipment procured by the department is procured on time and to budget
    Ensure that standard practices are utilised wherever possible
    Monitor design costs and provide design services appropriate to the allowance available
    Produce estimates and feedback for Proposals department
    Co-ordinate designs with all other disciplines internal and external, in order to ensure that all design elements are fully integrated
    Provide services which focus on customer satisfaction
    Ensure that design takes full regard of all health and safety requirements
    Ensure that designs take account of environmental issues

    Skills, Experience and Qualifications:

    Minimum:
    – HNC Mechanical Engineering with appropriate experience
    Ability to rationalise designs and produce economic plant layouts
    General knowledge of all aspects of water treatment, e.g. civil engineering, process engineering, electrical engineering and project management
    Have a knowledge of the principles of water and sewage treatment
