    Job Description
    The position of System Design Engineer will support Systems Design & Sales and Technical Sales during the sales process by assisting in design development. This position supports the Operations teams during various phases of the project lifecycle by drafting infrastructure, shop, and construction drawings, as well as fielding installation-related questions during on site operations. Engineering personnel report to the Director of Engineering.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities
    • Supports the Systems Design & Sales and Technical Sales teams:
    • Review RFPs for alignment with company core competencies
    • Develop RFIs for bid and design-build projects.
    • Develop pre-sales engineering documentation, including 3D models, system performance models, and network diagrams.
    • Develop preliminary system designs, bills of materials, labor allocations, and review/modify functional scopes of work.
    • Estimate RFP and design-build projects.
    • Communicate advanced technical information as needed to clients, vendors, and personnel.
    • Attending design and project kickoff meetings and other project-related meetings as necessary.
    • Review and/or assist in the development of construction drawings.
    • Review bills of material for accuracy and release to Project Management for procurement
    • Draft infrastructure and installation documentation, including ground plans, floor plans, RCPs, sections/elevations, point-to-point/box schedules, wire pull schedules, panel schedules, single-line diagrams, schematics, etc.
    • Review drawing packages drafted by other engineers.
    • Respond to technical questions from the Operations team during installation and update installation documentation as needed according to installation schedules.
    • Maintaining relationships with vendors through meetings, education, and consistent communication.
    • Assist with training internal technical or sales staff on new products.
    • Develop and maintain knowledge of current and new technologies the company offers.
    • Assist with development and implementation of technical standards and processes.
    • Develop and maintain a consistent continuing education plan.
    Requirements

    Skill/Experience Requirements

    •Extensive knowledge of either Audio/Video, Lighting or Rigging systems including 5 years design, installation, technical theatrical, or touring/production experience.

    •BA or BS in theatrical production, electrical, or structural engineering fields preferred.

    •Ability to read, understand, and develop construction style documentation including floor plans, RCPs, building sections, schematics, and riser diagrams.

    •Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or REVIT.

    •Understanding of bid processes and consultant specification documentation.

    •Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet or exceed project-driven deadlines.

    •Ability and desire to work in a team-oriented and interdisciplinary culture.

    •A mentality of constant-process-improvement.

    •Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

    Skill/Experience Preferences

    •Experience in SketchUp and/or Vectorworks.

    •AV specific applicants working knowledge of:

    •Audio system modelling programs such as EASE, Soundvision, ArrayCalc, MAPP 3D, and/or others.

    •Audio distribution utilizing QSC DSP, BSS, Symetrix, L-Acoustics or similar.

    •Video distribution utilizing SDI, HDBaseT, and AV-Over-IP.

    •Control system design utilizing QSC, Extron or similar.

    •Networking system programming.

    •AV applicant's certifications:

    •AVIXA CTS/CTS-D/CTS-I

    •Dante Level I or II

    •Lighting/Rigging specific applicants working knowledge of:

    •ETC Lighting and Rigging products and integrated control systems.

    •High voltage (120/208v) power distribution.

    •Low-voltage control system wiring.

    •Networking system programming.

    •Counterweight and motorized rigging systems and controls.

    •Typical commercial building means and methods.

    •Lighting Specific applicant's certifications:

    •ETC Certified Lighting or Rigging Technician preferred.
