    \tINTERNSHIP INFORMATION\r
    \r
    \tThis internship is offered only to senior students enrolled in a veterinary technology program with an accredited college or students who have just graduated. \r
    \r
    \tThis program is designed to provide experience and instruction in the following areas:\r
    \t \r
    \r
    \t\r
    \t\tIntroduction to basic husbandry and nutrition of zoo animals.\r
    \t\r
    \t\tAid with sample collection and laboratory processing.\r
    \t\r
    \t\tExposure to a variety of immobilization techniques (including dart systems).\r
    \t\r
    \t\tAssist with anesthesia/surgical procedures and exotic animal treatments.\r
    \t\r
    \t\tParticipate in diagnostic radiographic techniques.\r
    \t\r
    \t\tLearn medical data entry on ZIMS360.\r
    \t\r
    \t\tAssist with hospital and medical equipment maintenance in a modern 8,000 square foot facility.\r
    \t\r
    \t\tInvolvement with necropsy procedures (when applicable).\r
    \t\r
    \t\tObserve animal training techniques.\r
    \t\t \r
    \r
    \r
    \tMinimum Qualifications\r
    \r
    \t \r
    \tTo apply for a Veterinary Technician internship within the Animal Health Care department at Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium you must:\r
    \r
    \t\r
    \t\tBe a senior student enrolled in a veterinary technology program with an accredited college or have just recently graduated.\r
    \t\r
    \t\tFulfill college credit requirements if still enrolled in school.\r
    \t\r
    \t\tBe capable of the physical abilities required to work with animals (i.e. lift 50 pounds, etc.).\r
    \t\r
    \t\tAttach a cover letter including your career goals. \r
    \t\r
    \t\tAttach a resume.\r
    \t\r
    \t\tSubmit answers to application questions if provided\r
    \t\r
    \t\tSubmit two letters of recommendation from an advisor or supervisor. These may be received via email or attached to the online application.\r
    \t\r
    \t\tUndergo a phone, online or on-site interview.\r
    \t\r
    \t\tCommit to a minimum of (40 hours a week) for at least 12 weeks\r
    \t\r
    \t\tOnce selected, provide proof of a tetanus vaccination within the past 5 years and a negative TB result within the last year. \r
