    The Camp Nurse provides health care and first aid services to the campers and staff members in a resident camp setting and oversees the records and health care needs of all campers and staff. The Camp Nurse maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals while promoting and maintaining safe conditions in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. This results in a cause-centered culture that is welcoming, genuine, hopeful, nurturing, and determined.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
    • Demonstrate the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in relationships with colleagues, members, volunteers, vendors and guests.
    • Creates positive, nurturing relationships with children, while building cooperative relationships with parents/caregivers.
    • Provide health and first aid services to day camp campers and staff in a safe manner and according to all applicable licensing standards, standing orders, YMCA policies, state and local laws, YMCA of the USA risk management recommendations, and, where applicable, American Camping Association (ACA) guidelines.
    • Respond quickly and effectively to accidents and incidents.
    • Accurately prepare and submit Accident and Incident Reports in a timely manner.
    • Assist other camp staff members in the provision of health and first aid services where applicable, uphold ACA guidelines where applicable to other staff providing first aid.
    • Train and supervise any staff required to administer medication in the absence of the nurse according to State Regulations.
    • Prepare and deliver training segment for camp staff explaining health and first aid care procedures and policies.
    • Organize and maintain the health care logbook and administration of medication logbook according to State regulations.
    • Organize and maintain all camper and staff health records according to State regulations. Inform camp registrar in advance of session, and on an ongoing basis, of missing, incomplete, or insufficient health records and help to obtain those documents.
    • Compile copies of medical forms for campers and staff leaving grounds for a field trip.
    • Help to ensure coverage of the Infirmary, especially when campers are staying in the ward or the isolation room.
    • Consult with and obtain permission for any health care practices not in the standing orders.
    • Produce and distribute written communication to all relevant staff regarding special needs or precautions related to specific campers each session.
    • Order all equipment and supplies necessary for the successful operation of the health and first aid department.
    • Maintain adequate inventory of medical and first aid supplies throughout the summer and notify senior program director one week in advance if additional supplies are needed.
    • Ensure that all medical supplies are medications are stored and secured according to state regulations.
    • Ability to live on-site for the duration of the season.
    • Attends all mandatory meetings and trainings.
    Requirements
    • Must be 21 years of age or older with valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
    • Current certifications in CPR for the Professional Rescuer and American Red Cross First Aid.
    • 1+ year of experience in working with youth and teens.
    • Licensed Practical Nurse, Registered Nurse, Paramedic, EMT, Physician Assistant, or Physician.
    • 1+ year experience providing pediatric nursing care preferred.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of developmental stages and ability to apply knowledge to effectively care for campers and staff for routine care but also in emergencies.
    • Demonstrated organizational skills to be able to keep records and supplies in order that others can locate them.
    • Must complete new employee trainings and department onboarding.
