    Position Title: Process Development Engineer

    Position Reports To: Director of Research and Development

    Objectives:

    This engineer will be responsible for the development of Genpak's new products. Responsibilities will include leading development efforts for new products which meet internal and external customer needs, provide Engineering input and expertise for designing trials and developing extrusion and thermoforming processes and operational procedures. These efforts are expected to be on time, within established budgets, and with effectively managed project documentation. Upon arrival of new tooling, the engineer will participate in the group's successful transition of the project to the Production Group. This role will require the timely and effective interdepartmental communication of ongoing projects by leading regular meetings, developing timelines, and providing other updates, as necessary.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Lead in the design of experiments for product development of extrusion and thermoforming processes and trials.
    • Document trial work and provide data analysis of trial results.
    • Work cross-functionally to develop production methods and procedures.
    • Support the design and development of prototype tooling and extrusion and thermoforming equipment.
    • Provide input to the Plant and Process Engineering in developing automation and improving operations.
    • Assist the start-up of new production tooling for additional capacity, as needed.
    • Troubleshoot issues with existing production tooling and coordinate required modifications, as necessary.
    • Develop project timelines and identify critical deliverables with due dates.
    • Support in the development and execution of Fitness For Use testing procedures that provide data-driven results to stakeholders.
    • Must be available to travel up to 25% of the time.
    • Demonstrates ability to work without supervision.
    • Other duties, as necessary.

    Requirements

    OTHER REQUIREMENS:

    • Strong ability to develop project structure, scope, timelines, schedule, Project management software.
    • Ability to provide direction and support during projects with Commercialization & Manufacturing team when needed.
    • Strong ability to lead an effective multi-discipline project team.
    • Strong ability to establish and build relationships with internal and external customers.
    • Exhibits CAD aptitude.
    • Understanding of Design of Experiments.
    • Exhibits knowledge of plastic thermoforming material properties.
    • Exhibits knowledge of extrusion and thermoforming equipment and automation
    • Strong ability to design with manufacturing and safety in mind.

    Qualifications:

    • BS Engineering or equivalent experience.
    • Knowledge of the Plastics Industry preferred.
    • Experience in Engineering project management a plus.
    • Speaking and presentation skills to conduct effective meetings.
    • Above average knowledge of PC and Network based software including Word Processing, Spreadsheet and Database applications.
    • CAD skills with SolidWorks experience preferred.
    • Above average understanding of plastic physical properties and behaviors.
