McAllister Towing has provided superior tugboat service to New York Harbor since 1864, when Captain James McAllister, great-grandfather to current president Brian A.
Today, McAllister's tugs provide a wide variety of services to the busy ports of New York and New Jersey, serving the most concentrated and affluent consumer market in the world and handling a significant part of the 16 million tons of cargo that passes through the port every year.
In addition to ship docking services and general harbor assist work, New York based tugs are regularly employed in offshore towing along the entire East Coast.
McAllister is proud of its long history in New York Harbor and continues to provide its clients and customers with the highest quality service.
McAllister Towing of NY is seeking highly qualified Welders. Duties and responsibilities are outlined below.Welder
Reports to:
The Welder is responsible and accountable to the Foreman.
Supervises:
None.
Description of Duties:
The Welder is performing all kinds of welding, brazing, and cutting using gas and electric welding equipment.
Receives instructions, prints, and work orders for the job. Plans details of working procedure and tools and material requirements.
Fabricates equipment by cutting, burning, and welding various metals. Repairs equipment by using welding techniques and appropriate welding equipment.
Cleans and prepares surfaces to be welded. Sets up, assembles and tacks weld parts.
Builds up worn or defective surfaces.
Uses burning equipment to dismantle assemblies and to cut material to size and shape.
Keeps equipment and work area clean and orderly.
May be assigned to dismantle or cut up obsolete machinery, setting aside for scrap dealer.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
A High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
Satisfactory completion of in-house apprenticeship training.
Must possess varying degrees of precision and control where damage could be considerable.
Valid TWIC Card or must have applied for a TWIC Card by completing the enrollment process with TSA.
Minimum of two years related experience.
Physical Requirements:
Work involves considerable stooping, bending, and working in overhead structures and on scaffolds. Considerable glare emits from work, requiring the wearing of personal protective equipment. Exposed to moderate burns and exposed to flying objects, such as chips and scale. Accident hazard can involve severe cuts and bruises. Job site must be carefully enclosed to prevent injury to others from sparks and flying chips.

$30 an hour
