    PURPOSE

    Provides diagnostic patient care services using ultrasound and related diagnostic procedures. The scope of practice of the Ultrasound Technologist includes those procedures, acts and processes permitted by law, for which the individual has received education and clinical experience, has demonstrated competency and has completed appropriate ARDMS certification, which is the standard of practice in ultrasound. Carries out all duties while maintaining compliance and confidentiality and promoting the mission and philosophy of the organization.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Responsible for performing echocardiographic sonography, cardiovascular ultrasound studies, including stress echocardiogram, echocardiograms, carotid ultrasound imaging, vascular, abdomen, arterial and venous studies for physician review in a timely manner.
    • Prepares patients for exam by explaining procedure, transferring patient to ultrasound table, scrubbing skin and applying gel, and position patient properly.
    • Ensures images produced by ultrasound machine are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes while making adjustments to machine as required.
    • Responsible for working collaboratively with other members to assure the safe and accurate delivery of patient care.
    • Assumes responsibility for patient testing, quality control, quality improvement, and equipment maintenance.
    • Performs procedures according to physician's orders in the patient's chart.
    • Calibrates and maintains equipment and orders supplies when needed
    • Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within field.
    • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
    • Provides precise documentation on all recorded ultrasound procedures.
    • Uses independent judgment during the exam to accurately differentiate between normal and abnormal findings.
    • Assumes responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of patients while they are in the technician's care.
    • Addresses problems of patient care as they arise and makes decisions to appropriately resolve the problems.
    • Establishes and maintains ethical working relationships and good rapport with all interrelating referral offices, hospitals, or commercial agencies.
    • Adheres to all company policies, including but not limited to, OSHA, HIPAA, compliance and Code of Conduct.
    • Regular and dependable attendance.

    OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Education and Experience

    Required:

    • High school diploma or GED and two-year associate's degree.
    • One (1) or more years of experience in performing adult echocardiogram and stress echocardiogram, carotid ultrasound imaging, and arterial and venous studies.

    Preferred:

    • Registered Cardiac Sonographer, Registered Vascular Specialist
    • Experience leading or involved in obtaining ICAEL accreditation a plus.

    Certificate/License

    • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) with the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) with Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).
    • BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
    • Current compliance with Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements for specialty as appropriate.
    • AHA approved Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) course completion card or within 60 days of hire required.

    Preferred:

    • Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) with the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).

    • Ability to effectively operate ultrasound equipment.
    • Ability to continue to learn and grow in profession.
    • Ability to evaluate ultrasounds in order to acquire appropriate diagnostic information.
    • Ability to integrate diagnostic ultrasound, laboratory results, patient history and medical records, and adapt ultrasound examination as necessary.
    • Ability to use independent judgment to acquire the optimum diagnostic ultrasound information in each examination performed.
    • Ability to evaluate, synthesize, and communicate diagnostic information to the attending physician.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with the patient and the health care team, recognizing the special nature of ultrasound examinations and patient's needs.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and health care team.
    • Ability to follow established departmental procedures.
    • Ability to work efficiently and cope with emergency situations.
    • Must be customer oriented in order to provide outstanding services to patients, physicians and co-workers.
    • Ability to maintain awareness of patient privacy, confidentiality and dignity at all times.
    • Ability to engage others, listen and adapt response to meet others' needs.
    • Ability to align own actions with those of other team members committed to common goals.
    • Excellent computer and keyboarding skills, including familiarity with Windows.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

    Work Schedule: Monday- Friday 8:00am-5:00pm, Northwest Hills Specialty clinic location, possible South Austin travel required. Does NOT work nights, weekends, or on call.
