    JOB DESCRIPTION:
    The Respiratory Therapist Director shall carry out a variety of administrative and supervisory functions in directing activities in the Respiratory Care area

    RESPONSIBILITIES:


    Follow established and recognized facility guidelines and proceduresMonitors and evaluates the administration of all Respiratory Care throughout the facilityPrepares staffing schedules, assigns, supervises and monitors daily duties and functions of Respiratory Care.

    Reviews and interprets work performance of Respiratory Care personnel against established standards.
    Assures that all Respiratory Care personnel are in compliance with establishedpolicy and procedures.
    Participates in and provides continuing education programs related to Respiratory Care.
    Provides an appropriate orientation program for new personnel hired with the Respiratory Care and Nursing area.
    Provides input to the Administrator regarding hiring and disciplining Respiratory Care personnel.
    Participates in the formulation and development of Respiratory Care policies and procedures.
    Participates on Infection Control, Quality Assurance, Fire & Safety and Utilization Review committees.
    Directs all aspects of Quality Assurance pertaining to Respiratory Care Services.
    Participates in Resident Care Planning.
    Handles resident and personnel grievances and/or refers them to the facility Administrator.
    Conducts regularly scheduled monthly Respiratory Care Staff meetings with appropriate documentation.
    Makes independent decisions regarding Respiratory Care and determines emergency measures to be instituted.
    Assists in performing marketing functions pertaining to all aspects of Respiratory Care.
    Interviews prospective personnel in the Respiratory Care area. Selects, hires, provides guidance, reviews performance and disciplines Respiratory personnel after approval of the facility Administrator.
    Assists in evaluating, and making admission recommendations pertaining to prospective residents.

    Determines the most suitable and efficient method of administering care to the residents in the Respiratory Care area which is compatible with the resident's physician medical orders.

    Responsible for maintaining an adequate amount of medical supplies necessary to meet the daily needs of the Respiratory Care area.

    Maintains statistical data, prepares and submits reports as required / requested.
    Develops and maintains an appropriate Preventative Maintenance program for all equipment used in the Special Service area.
    Assists an participates in establishing good resident and community relations.
    Continues professional growth through current literature, professional meetings, institutes and work shops.
    May be required to perform duties and functions of those listed for Respiratory Care Practitioners.
    May be responsible for other supervisory functions related to all operational areas not listed previously.

    Maintains confidentiality of residents, fosters self respect and feelings of worth in residents by treating them with kindness and understanding.

    Knows and complies with residents rights. Immediately reports all residents grievances to the facility Administrator.


    REQUIREMENTS:
    Respiratory Therapist licensed in NYS requiredGraduate of an AMA approved school for Respiratory Care requiredExperience in long-term care facility preferredExperience in a supervisory capacity in a hospital or extended care facility preferredAble to interpret patient information and make critical decisions about necessary actionsAbility to supervise and work well with and show respect toward other health care personnel (i.e., CNAs, LPNs, physicians, etc.), residents and their family membersStrong written and verbal communication skills; able to follow written and verbal instructionsPhysical endurance for frequent activity; ability to lift a minimum of 20 pounds
