    Overview:

    We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic scientist intern to join our Gene Therapy team at Fujifilm Irvine Scientific. This position offers a unique opportunity to immerse oneself in cutting-edge research and development within the field of Gene Therapy; working on optimization of the bioprocessing parameters for production of viral vectors in HEK293 cells utilizing Ambr15 mini-bioreactor system. The intern has the opportunity to learn the entire workflow including but not limited to the cell culture, passaging, transfection and perform molecular biology techniques such as digital PCR (dPCR) for viral titer measurement. This is a hands-on position that will provide valuable experience in industrial bioprocessing and biotechnology.

    Responsibilities:

    • Operate and maintain the Ambr15 bioreactor system
    • Perform molecular biology techniques including dPCR and transfection
    • Maintain cell cultures and perform cell-based assays
    • Assist with experimental design, data analysis, and report generation
    • Collaborate with team members to achieve project goals
    • Actively participate in group/project meetings
    • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading technical publications
    • Adhere to laboratory safety protocols and guidelines
    • Good Documentation Practices and Good Laboratory Practices

    Required Skills/Education:

    • Students must be pursuing a degree in Basic/Applied Life Sciences, Chemistry, Biotechnology, Bioengineering, or related field
    • Must be at least a 2nd year student and returning student this fall.
    • Ability to demonstrate potential for technical proficiency, scientific creativity, collaboration with others and independent thought
    • General knowledge of molecular biology techniques (PCR, sample purification, etc.)
    • General knowledge of basic laboratory equipment (scales, pH meters, etc.)
    • General knowledge of commonly used experimental/ research concepts, practices, and procedures
    • General knowledge of computer systems and productivity software
    • General knowledge of GMP and GLP procedures
    • Ability to work in a sterile environment

    Desired Skills:

    • Understanding of mammalian cell culturing, experience a plus
    • Understanding of technical bioprocessing concepts (kLA, tip speed, fluid dynamics, process scaling) - experience a plus
    • Understanding of viral vectors and transfection techniques - experience a plus

    For California, the base salary range for this position is $19.00 to $25.00 per hour. Compensation for the successful candidate will depend on various factors (e.g., qualifications, education, prior experience, location, etc.)
